LOL, its nothing new. The Ryder Cup isnt exactly the American golfer's strong point. Although not an excuse, the style of play and mentality of each shot is not like stroke play at all. Match play requires thoughtful imaginative shots that in stroke play is rarely attempted.

Oh, I love Pony's explanation: we're stupid. RPJS needs no help here . . . How about we don't care? Anything's better than we're stupid :$

Nothing complicated about it. The Euros made putts when it counted and the Yanks didn't. Not a new story, either.

Re: Hailing all Golfers

LOL QC, its simple. Our golfers have practiced on lush and well maintained courses their whole lives. On fairways that have no bare spots and are rolled even. European golf courses however aren't lush. They don't mind if part of the fairway is baren, or has gone unwatered. They grow up with match play. Its all about one hole, so its ok to take risky shots you wouldnt want to take in stroke play for fear of making a bogey.

I don't think its a not caring issue. Most of the European guys are on the PGA tour too. IMHO its just the 20+ years of playing golf with a different mentality.

The rest is just missing putts and critical shots.

Sorry guys but golf is not a team sport. The pure game does not support that mentallity.

LOL@ Pony
You need to put down the shovel while you still have a chance of climbing out of the hole you are digging.

Your guys are used to lush green fairways, the match was played in Irland in the rain, how much lusher do you whant.

RPJS, we played in the USA last time around if my memory serves me correctly. Course is not the problem, the psyche of the game is where the issues lie. Golf is well recognized as a mental as well as physical game.

I don't know about the above comments, but if you can beat Tiger Woods, you have climbed everest in your underwear and lived to tell.

Hat off to your guys. Great job.

Remember that Tiger is trained to play 4 rounds with total concentration for every shot. He is not Psychologically prepared to have compassion for others accomplishments or failures not prepared to deal with them. He is still the greatest individual player ever to play the game.

The Europeans have developed a team attitude and for this they are rewarded as they should be. Congratulations, now would you like to bet on some tournaments. Kidding of course some of your players are favorites for me to watch.

I think this was probably the best Ryder Cup I have ever seen, all of the players should be congratulated for the manner in which all the games were played.
I have 2 outstanding moments from the match, the first being Darren Clark on the 16th green on Sunday, that must have been such an emotional time for him. The second was Tiger's caddie throwing the great mans 9 iron in the river, if ever there was a time when a man wished the ground would open up and swallow him.

Re: Hailing all Golfers

I think Tiger played very well. He was 3-1-0. That's better than he usually does in match play.

But for a handful of missed putts Friday and Saturday the outcome could have been very close.

Clark and Garcia played brilliantly.

The course appeared to be in great condition, but rain is something the US players are not accustomed to. It might have made a difference.

Bottom line. The Euro players played well enough to win by a wide margin. They earned it.
