Thay say if you can last 3 days you have it made.
Not sure who they are but you got to go a good 3 weeks to have a fighting chance. The stop smoking part is hard, but the NO ALCOHOL for at least a month is worse. Those two go together life Lavern & Shirley and must be avoided at all costs.

Thats how i quit. Some one told me that and i did it.I did have to chang alot of habits like going to the bar.
Im rooting for you guys.

Yep, that was what I was afraid of. I'm good by myself. It's that damn peer and beer pressure. This is where it gets tough. I have to give up playing pool because it's at the bar. No more football watching "at the bar" and you say for a good month ? Oh boy!

Re: I Gotta do it this time(update over 6 days now)

I'm still smoke free! 11 complete days so far. I'm so proud of my wife, she too is doing her best to quit. She has removed just about every ash tray in the house. She is slowly quitting. Yesterday she only smoked 6 all day. Thats not too bad, but better than a pack a day.

The last two days being work days has been the hardest. I work about 90% of the day alone with the ability to cheat. If I did, I would only be cheating myself if I caved in. It seems like the fight with the habit is an hour by hour to minuet by minuet struggle.

I feel the main thing to quitting is to make sure your mind is made up 100% to quit. Then I found out you get guys who purposely hand you a cigarette just to see how well you reject their offer. A few found out that don't ever offer me one. One guy gave me one, I rolled it around in my hand getting the tobacco to come out of the paper, then I tore the filter off it, and then broke it in half. Told him thanks and asked if I could get another one. Needless to say he didn't do that again!

Gotta go to work and make it number 12 today!8)

Come on Firestar,,,,,just do it! Quit! Like the dude in the movie Water Boy,,,,,,,YOU CAN DO IT!

Keep up the good work SS!

Well been taking the Chantix for almost a week now. It seems that I am doing ok, maybe 6-7 less smokes per day. I wasnt expecting a over-night miracle. I will stick it out a while longer but at 120.00 per month I may not be able too.

Good Point! I was thinking if it did not really help much more than the current results I was going to drop the Chantix and just go "cold turkey"

12 days, nicely done!
It will get easier.....
The physical need is broken.....
The psychological habit is much harder, but will get easier as time passes........
I am closing in on a year, & I don't even think about it unless someone brings it up......
I will say that I had 2 important crutches, though.....
My GF doesn't smoke & the indoor smoking ban were a great help.....
I smoked for nearly 30 years, & if I can do it, anyone can.....
Way to go!
When the urge hits, just tell yourself it is in your head, & say no!.......JK

Way to go SS,

I came very close to smoking on Sat night, I had a little to much beer and ended up with a cigarette in my mouth just about to light it, the wife came to my rescue and took it off me. Its strange but thinking back on the moment I didn't have any cravings or anything like that I just took a cigarette when it was offered to me, I'll put it down to an beer induced lack of concentration.
