HELP DHALEY.......went out today to test a 22p raker .The lettering on the prop is 1 inch long ,, stamped and 1/4 high ......when i power up from full trim in it will take forver to get on plane but does......... continue trimming up and power comes on nice ie; rpm....my wet area seemed to be less than usual ...trimmed all the way seemed that i had hit another gear......she sure hooked up nice but only acheived 4900rpm........let me say that i was still impressed with the "rakers" .......maybe a motor lift will help wot .......let me point out that this boat was orginally designed for a extra long leg......transom was cut to have a long leg installed """"not by me!!!!!!.......do u think the geometry is now screwed up? ....i have always had a porpusing problem with this boat at speed ....have installed smart tabs to help keep the bow down ........ my boat is a 1990 terminator with a 1983 115 evirude thku ............leo

Re: issues issues issues

This sounds a lot like a motor that is mounted too high.

How high is the anti ventilation plate above the bottom of the hull?

Re: issues issues issues

I was thinking it might be too low. That might explain the low rpm and the ill handling. If the boat has a pad and a step it might be 25" from the top of the transom to the bottom of the pad but it's still designed for a 20" motor. If that's the case and someone cut the transom down, that will create all kinds of issues.

Re: issues issues issues

thks DHALEY...... looking from the rear at the bottom contour from the keel out......... the haul angles up roughly 10 to 12 degrees for about 15 inches then it does step up an inch then carries on at the same 10 to 12 degrees to the corners .... might this be the pad or step ur referring to? hope this makes sense ........ and if i can ask would the butcher job on the transom be my problems and what can u suggest? do i need to change mounting angles ? etc etc etc ........thku .......leo

OK, sounds like a standard V bottom without a pad or a step and a keel. I think what you're refering to are the chines or strakes. Did the Smart Tabs help?

DHALEY PLS ....... need some input...my transom angle is about 20degrees .the diff between the top of the transom and where the engine sits is about 7" has this butcher job forever going to give me problems ?. Like i say the porpoising problem is always been on going with more speed ...... do u think that i could ever make this boat run properly..? even lifting the motor to get more rpm still will bring me back to bounce bounce bounce . how do u suggest i go about trying to set it up back to the original design? ur input is much appreciated.......thks ....leo

So did the boat also bounce with the 90 HP motor?

Any way you could post a picture?

Re: issues issues issues

help guys .moved motor 1 hole up that being the 3rd hole now ....tried the 22p raker cant sem to get enough rpm 5300 with a very light load me ....190lbs and 3 gallons of gas. the boat did seem to want to go more but the porpoising problem is still there ....anyway i think i can lower my smart tabs some more to solve that keeping fingers crossed, the 22p is to much i think . anyone had experience with an SST prop or an renegade? the shop near by has both of those for me to try .the renegade is a 4 blade 21p ....the SST is an 3 blade 21p ........ any thoughts ??????? thks ...leo

OK the motor does look a little low - since the transon was cut 7" and only 5" was needed. When you say the boat wanted to go more what do you mean? Can you give us a speed? It might be worth trying one more hole higher...

IMO the two alternate props you describe would both be worth trying.

Re: issues issues issues

hello Bob .sorry those pics where taken b4 i lifted the motor up. Now the a/v plate is 3/4" above the bottom of the keel 3/4"........the revs keep building up producing more power but by that time the boat starts porpoising ... .so i have to back off the throttle or trim down . my speeds have been in the low to mid 30ish .did get it up to 37mph but was bouncing wild .... its difficult here to have accurate mph when im always fighting a strong incoming or outgoing tide..on a river 1 way im going mid 30ish the other low 30,s

Some hulls just won't take much trim - yours may be one of them. Moving some weight to the bow may be worth a try...

Re: issues issues issues

thks bob ....have thought about that b4.......another gas tank or battery compartment but it would mean pulling up the deck .. Do u know if the cut transom would change the leverage of the boat now?...... if so would a transom extension help ? or a jack plate ? any ideas much appreciated will try out those other props anyway .....Leo
