changing 1 piece manifold with 2 piece manifold with a 4.3

Hello all!

I have another question:

A 2002 Crownline with a 4.3 merc & 1 piece manifolds - can i switch to 2 piece manifolds? Will they fit in? Or do i have to use some other? I think the angle from the exhaust elbow won't be enough to fit in. Any suggestions from the fellow iboaters?

Yes, it can be done....
It will require some modifications....
There are some here who have done it & I'm sure they will have some do's & don't's.....
I think Tashasdaddy did it, for one...
I do know that you have to be very careful when ordering parts....
I think GLM makes replacements, but had stock issues.....
There are some members here that know way more about the conversion, so stick around......JK

The Best way is to Convert to the Right Y-pipe,.........
'Course,... That involes pulling the motor.........

I Believe that 1 of the Aftermarket Companies is selling a "Kit" for the conversion,........
This "Kit" has a different Elbow to align with the Y-pipe.......

I did it to my VP aq255a 350. Great help and advice from an ebayer that sells the parts. Go there and search FredWarner1. Contact him, tell him what ya want to do. He's done it before, knows what ya need, and the only thing I can add is get an extra foot of exhaust hose. You will need the piece that comes with the elbows to use as one for the bend into the y-pipe from the elbow, and the extra for the elbow into the riser, as cut in half won't give ya enough. Fred has a 100% Positive feedback on 1460+ items, so he's the man.

Hello again!

Followed the scaaty's advice, but: All i found was a kit for a 4.3 OMC + the guy doesn't ship internationally (to Europe). Is there a kit for 4.3 2002 merc? Didn't find it anywhere and looked around a lot. Can anyone help me?

I haven't heard of an aftermarket changeover kit, But Merc now makes one as of this year.
It's no longer requiered to remove the engine and replace the Y pipe. Mercruiser came out with a conversion kit with exhaust hoses and hardware for about $165.
This does not include the manifolds, risers, or the intermediate exhaust elbows needed for the changeover.

I did it too and used Fred Warner as referenced above. He was great, and it worked without incident on my 4.3. You should ask on Crownline's board to see if anyone has converted on a Crownie.

mine ended up beating me. i finally put the orininal manifolds back on and sold the boat, sold all my parts i could not return. Don't let anyone tell you to use 3" riser and elbow. they don't work. merc and the aftermarkets a have since brought out new products, to solve this problem. mine is not someone elses problem. but they knew it when they bought it, cheap.

Hi again everyone!

Don, you posted the PDF file in a post above but it isn't working anymore. That file had all the part codes for the conversion. Is it possible to get that PDF again? We did that conversion on a 4.3 and it worked; now we need another kit to do it.

GLM makes a complete kit for this application(includes manifolds, risers.....)
It is Kit#58992. Thier website is www.glmmarine.com Somebody there would probably be able to answer the availability question.
