Re: Good Internet Sites for BIY PC Parts
I buy all my power supplies from PC Power and Cooling, not as cheap as some, but they are built like tanks and you never have to worry about getting any noisy power out of them. They also sell silent cooling fans.
Crucial is a great place for memory. Tiger direct sometimes does have awesome deals on their bare bones systems.
Look at the pricing of the Western Digital hard drives on the Western Digital site. They sell also sell them direct and you can get some good deals especially on older models. Definitely make sure you are getting the 3 Year warranty. They are made for workstations instead of Home PCs. Better MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure). The other good thing about the site is they keep track of your warranty if anything should go wrong. I have never had a hassle sending one back that went bad (actually, the two I had to send started to become noisy)
Tiger Direct
I just got a 1GB USB key there for $4.99 after rebates. I am not even going to use software I got with it. I love the key. It is small, and the cover clicks on and will not come off unless you press in on the sides.
NewEgg is a good place to check out. Always good when you know someone has purchased somewhere for years.
Just be careful buying from unknown sites. they can go under and you are done. if you need to return a bad part.
On Flat Panel monitors, there are some great deals everywhere. Most will work fine for computer use, but if you game or watch a lot of movies, make sure the response time is as low as possible. Some are as low as 2ms, while the others can run between 10ms and 16ms. You will get less blur and less eye strain.
