Re: 135hp evinrude
The 135 came out in 1973. It was a 125 that had the bubble exhaust added for the first time. It was made through the 1976 model year, then changed to the 140 in 1977. I ran one for years and thought it was a great engine. There were a lot of these engines around, and parts are generally available, esp on the used market. The trim system has not been sold for years, but I think you can still get many of the repair parts for it. New ignition parts are still avail, but pricey. I would check the lower unit oil for water intrustion, squirt a dab of oil in the cylinders, then turn the engine over and do a compression check. If it does not make good compression numbers, it is a tired engine in need of rings. I would not run it without installing at least a new water pump impeller, probably a thermostat too. Check the fuel hoses under the cowl-if they are dry rotted-replace them. Carbs may need rebuilding also, depending on how it was put away for storage. Factor these costs into the purchase price. Does it come with controls, cables and prop?
