Re: My latest project
Ron,
The sub cabinet is divided roughly 1/3 for the enclosed side, 2/3 for the ported side. I got the diminsions from a program years ago that calculates internal volume specifically for bandpass cabs. Isobaric bandpass cabs are reat because they save a great deal of space, and perform as well as MUCH larger speakers. This one is rated at 500W RMS and 1000W peak, currently powered at only 300W.
The drawer slides are steel heavy duty slides that I got from the hardware store. They had a good selection of styles, lengths and prices. I got the longest and strongest for this application because I wanted the drawers to slide easily even if they were full of heavy stuff. I used brass window latches to secure them shut, but it would be easy to use locking latches.
Another note about the speaker; this is an uncommon bandpass cab. Most are three chamber. Those are the ones with the plexi or lexan window where you can see the speakers facing each other. Those take up too much room for me so I chose the two chamber cab. I am real happy with the bass responce this little speaker produces, and do not plan to increase the amplification.
The handiest thing about this cargo box is that I can fold my seat-backs down and I have a queen sized sleeping surface back there, with electrical outlets right there to power a laptop. Plus I still have easy access to the factory storage compartments back there.
