Open Office - Free Office Suite

Mozilla Firefox - Free Web Browser

Mozilla Thunderbird - Free Email client with excelent spam filter.

MozBackup - Free utility to backup your Firefox and Thunderbird

AVG Free Antivirus - Works Great. Free for home use

IZArc - Works like WinZip but with more features. Free.

FileZilla - Good Free FTP Client

Allway Sync - Sync your USB drive with your computer

SimBust Note Manager - Good for keeping notes about many different things all in one place. Free.

Picasa - Excellent Photo Album, Managent, Editing

Winamp - "Media Player". Find the old 2.x version if you can!

Password Safe - Keeps all your passwords in an encrypted file. Free

A couple of more come to mind......

Google Erunt....it's a 2 part program. A registry backup program that backs up ALL the Windows hives, unlike the WinXP version (which doesn't!) that leaves a restore worthless. A Registry Defrag utility that works a treat.

Erunt will save your a$$ if you find you have a corrupted registry and Windows won't boot. It's a restore utility for use at the Dos level. You'll need a bootable Dos utility to use it (hint, hint, WinXP users)

A Hirens boot CD is a must, kinnda hard to find, but worth the search......D/L an ISO image a burn a copy, you'll be glad you did before disaster strikes.

i386 is right on with the old version of winamp.

a while back I started keeping all the installation files I downloaded.

AOL instant messanger now is about 10 megs, and completely fills your system with junk.... I have AIM95, works great, no junk

Yahoo Messanger is the same way.... My copy from 2001 at only 2megs



And for a little nostalgia..... PKZIP.exe pkunzip.exe command line zip utitlity.
