Small plane belonged to Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle.

Yes, and they are saying he is confirmed to be the pilot and died. Four others also died in the apartment building? Apparently part of the plane fell back to the street and they found his passport. He was on his way back home for the off-season and had his pilots license for 7 or 8 months.

They are saying now via the coroner's office that just the 2 people on the plane is all that died.

Yeah, saw (seeing) that too. They're reporting that Lidle was identified on the street below.

Re: Plane crash(update)

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle was one of two fatalities Wednesday when his plane crashed into a high-rise apartment building in New York, team owner George Steinbrenner said.

"This is a terrible and shocking tragedy that has stunned the entire Yankees organization," he said in a written statement. "I offer my deep condolences and prayers to his wife, Melanie, and son, Christopher, on their enormous loss."

Brian Cashman, senior vice president and general manager for the team, said, "I am deeply saddened by this tragic event and I ask everyone to keep Cory, his family and all those affected by this tragedy in your prayers."

A flight instructor also was in the plane, Mayor Michael Bloomberg told reporters. (Posted 6:33 p.m. )

Terribly sad, no doubt.

I wish the media would get a life. CNN ran with the story for 10 hours straight. They wanted a GWB connection so bad, they could taste it. I think they thought if they interviewed enough whack jobs on the street, they'd find one that would claim it.

Give me a break.

It's Dubya's fault because he didn't ground all civilian air traffic....K, it's a reach.

I'd be real interested in seeing the enhanced version of the Coast Guard footage. Even though he was an inexperienced pilot, he had an Instructor right beside him, and he still managed to hit, not the top of the building, but in the middle.... with no other tall buildings around.

Re: Plane crash(update)

From reading the real local news its a 2500ft wide air corridor that deads ends in laguardia air space

It requires the abilty to make a perfect u-turn in a 2500 wide area OR contact control and be allowed to pass through one of the restricted areas

VERY few pilots make the u-turn they pass through

And i do get to ask and expert my boss was a CG Air Sea rescue pilot with over 8500 hours
