Re: Plane crash(update)
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle was one of two fatalities Wednesday when his plane crashed into a high-rise apartment building in New York, team owner George Steinbrenner said.
"This is a terrible and shocking tragedy that has stunned the entire Yankees organization," he said in a written statement. "I offer my deep condolences and prayers to his wife, Melanie, and son, Christopher, on their enormous loss."
Brian Cashman, senior vice president and general manager for the team, said, "I am deeply saddened by this tragic event and I ask everyone to keep Cory, his family and all those affected by this tragedy in your prayers."
A flight instructor also was in the plane, Mayor Michael Bloomberg told reporters. (Posted 6:33 p.m. )
