Pisser slow to pee! Worn out pump? Prostrate?

How long should it take for the water pump to prime and start pumping water? It seems that my '94 20hp is slow to pee...about 4-5 second delay after start up & idle. Is this normal, or is it a sign of a worn out water pump? I've (it's) got a steady stream when it gets going, however.

Thanks

Yea, that's about right. When's the last time you serviced the water pump though? A weekend boater should do it every couple of years.

how often do you run it. and when was the last change. if run only occasionally, and it's been 3 years. i would put and impeller on the christmas list. better safe than sorry.

I'd have to look at it with my cystoscope. Does it start, and stop, or just dribble?

I liked the prostate joke though...

The gland men have is called the prostate. “Prostrate” is an adjective meaning “lying face downward.

Anyway, I still liked the joke.

Thanks for the correction. Seems to me (from the patient's point of view) the meanings are interchangeable!?

Anyway, I'm the third owner of the motor & I do not know when if the pump has ever been changed. The motor has had a lot of use recently (weekly), but as the temps cool toward winter usage will ease off. I think I'll put the pump on the to-do list.
