while running my boat the engine seemed to run out of gas, I had plenty, I could not restart, I removed fuel filter and blew thru it to clear it, I found what looked like plastic pieces come out at least 20 very small pieces. If this is the problem how do I repair what damage has occured to my engine? And how much should I expect to pay a repair guy? thanks

Re: fuel filter failure

Chances are the engine is not damaged. The pieces in the fuel filter came from somewhere before the engine. The primer bulb, the fuel tank, or the fuel pickup tube in the tank. Replace the filter and try restarting the engine. It would also help if you would have told us what engine you had. If your fuel tank is a plastic 6 gallon type, I've seen plastic debris left over from the drilling operations during manufacture plug up the fuel system.

Do you have fuel/water seperating type filter before the primer bulb? Or? are you talking about the filter on the engine? Fuel injected or carbs?
