should I, could I, paint my trim tabs?

Hey, My trim tabs were so loaded with barnicales that they kept my bow down while they were in the up position! The barnicales must have been 2 inches thick on the tops, bottoms, sides, cans... (The out drive too.) I've never had this problem, nor have I ever seen painted trim tabs. Would there be any reason not to paint them with non metallic bottom paint? Heard of using diaper rash cream, but think it would just wash off. As would any wax products.

If they are below waterline, as you describe, no problem painting them.

You just need to know what they are made of before you do so,

Art, Most trim tabs are made of stainless steel. You can therefore paint them with any metallic bottom paint you want. If they were aluminum, you would need to use the tin based antifouling paint.

Thanks, I think they are stainless steel, and I'm sure painting the plastic cans is OK too. What about the hoses? They seem to rubber or neoprene (not plastic). I've been advised in the past not to paint hoses under the hood. Different paint, same problem?

Art, If the hoses will hold up the to the salt water, they will likely hold up to some paint. Seriously, you can choose to paint or not paint the hoses. A word of caution, if you need to scrape the barnacles off the hoses, be carful not to tear or damage the hoses while scraping.
