Johnson 4 stroke no reverse, no nuetral

My outboard motor which has about 50 hours on it failed me last week. Motor will start in Neutral but prop is engaged (no neutral prop). Boat will run about 7 knots in neutral. Shifting to reverse does not reverse prop. Prop speeds up when throttle is applied. I popped cover to check linkage and it is working. Talked to one repairman and he recalls a know condition with Johnson and Suzuki. I assume it is in the lower end. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

pull the lower unit off and inspect it

if it adjusted properly then lower unit has something wrong

Before pulling the lower unit I would disconnect the shift cable and see if it shifts properly without the cable.

I have it in shop. Repair tells me parts on order with no delivery date. Bad thing I am told is that lower unti canot be accessed without removing upper. Means all seals will need to be changed. I am also told this is a know problem in Suzuki/Johnson. I will not be a Bombardier customer in the future.

Update: My boat motor is still awaiting parts. Here is a Johnson motor built by Suzuki I am told. When I bought the appraisals were high. Now I learn this is an ongoing problem. All the parts except the part that broke have come in. It is over a month and a half now. Never, Never will I buy or recommend a Bombardier, Johnson or Suzuki item. I am so discus-ted I will probably sell the boat when I get it back. Less that 20 hours on the motor.

In your first post you said the engine had 50 hours on it. In your last post you said less than 20 hours. How old is this motor? I would think if this was a common problem there would be posts on this forum and I've not seen one. Also, are we getting the full story? Idle speed to high, are you slow shifting, did you hit something? I'm not trying to be nasty. Just looking for all the details.

I would check the adjustment nut on the shift shaft, sounds like it was not locked properly and is out of adjustment. It only takes about a turn to put it out. I have a 9.9 Suzie and a 50 hp Johnson/Suzie 4-stroke and have no problems. It's kind of lonely on the repair boards if you own a Suzie no matter what site you are on.:%

What year and size motor?
Where part of the world are you in?
How much you want?

Just because the repair facility says the part is on order does not mean it is. Or, how was it ordered? There is more than one way.

As the others, there are too many discrepencies, in this scenario. Quick to blame, with few facts.
