I wanted to attach a shed roof to my garage to park my Stratos. My wife's nephew does this type of work.
I had planned on a 12 x 25 shed roof. The nephew then talked me into building a completely separate "boat barn". The barn was to be a 16 x 28 pole building with metal siding and roof. I then decided to add a shed roof to this barn. Add another 10 foot overhang roof. The wife wanted her own shed roof on the other side. We now have a 36 x 28 barn. The original 16 feet wide with two overhangs of 10 feet each.
The nephew is training a new crew of Larry, Daryl and Daryl. Or it may be Curly, Larry and Moe. Anyway, he's keeping a close eye on their work and the building is top notch quality. A little slow going up, but the quality is outstanding.
He also had a semi bring his Case backhoe to my property and is leveling uneven ground, pulling stumps, knocking over dead trees, etc.
The barn itself has a garage door 10 feet wide, a people entance door, and one window. Two 8 foot shop lights will be installed along with interior wiring. I also requested 2 outside outlets so I can filet fish under the overhang. Two 4 x 8 peg boards installed on the back wall to organize my fishing equipment.
Who wants to guess the price??

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

Hmmm...don't know. But I bet I came in for less. I just built a pole shed, 34'x28' to house my tractor, Jeep, and boat. No walls, 16 marine grade 7-8" poles, 4 10" x 32' CEE channel galvanized steel girders, 12 3'x28' 26gauge R-panel roofing (white on both sides), 9' clearance and three drive through bays. Did the site work with my tractor / box blade, hyd. boom arm. Only helper was my gf, just put the roof on today. Total cost to this point: $112 (and $50 of that was for the roofing screws)...

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

My wife shook her head and mumbled something about men, and wondered the size of the house. See, when I built our house I made a little over 2,000 sq foot of living space and the same amount of garage and storage space! You got to know your priorities, man. Oh, and one part of the garage is long enough to back the boat in and leave it hooked up to the Yukon so they can be warm and dry and ready to go in the morning without having to deal with hooking up the trailer.

bjcsc, come on West. You're beating Nephew's price!!!

Aspeck: Just how deep is your barn with a boat and tow vehicle hooked and dry? I'm already jealous.

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

It's the whole length of the house - 36 feet, and 12 feet wide. That is one bay. Yep, I am a lucky man!

Agree with Bondo, whatever the price, you are over budget! But then, when I talk about estimate in building, I just double it at the start - 'cuz till it is all said and done, it will be twice the size!

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

If you don't guess the price, you can't win the prize.!!!!
I'm serious. I will mail a spool of 14lb Rapala Long Cast line 440 yards never opened to the closest guess.
However, even I do not know the final price.

Offer valid only in the yadda yadda.

I'm serious about mailing the line to the winner!!! It was free to me and I'll pay postage.
Let the guessing begin. Oops, only one entrant per user name and I posted this on the "other site" so only one spool per site if not a duplicate winner.

Mods, I apologize if this is not allowed, but it's just a give away from me to my winning friend.

Obviously you weren’t using new, store bought materials. 8)

And like Bob Barker, if you over bid, too bad. The closest bid without going over wins.

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

To give a little help to the bidders, an underground "pipe" I think PVC was run 90 feet to the "barn" in order to install electric. No garage door opener. All soffits covered with metal. 18 inch over hang soffit on front and rear of barn. Might still have a motion sensor light installed on the front over the garage door but I will not include that figure in the final price.

The south overhang shed roof also had to have about two feet of soil dug out in order to allow correct head room under the overhang. Thats 2 feet deep, by 10 feet by 28 feet of soil removal. No concrete involved flooring or under the shed roofs. Gravel and "dust" to cover the floors.

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

Let me guess..... somewhere between a bunch and a gob.

No one will come close unless they see the specs and can price materials locally, so what did it cost?.. I know you are dying to tell us.

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

I have the same plans for a shed except ...... we have a 60+lb/ft snow load in my area. I'm putting it on the back burner for a bit. I would guess 7500 in materials since there is no concrete. The ground work can be accomplished in less than a day and the gravel has to be hauled in........ and 2500 labor. 10K

Re: Shed Roof Inflation

We are pricing out something similar at our church. I will get back with you when I look at the price of that and compare specs.

Actually I was - sort of. A buddy of mine is a developer. I got a call from him this spring that they had just purchased a piece of property to develop that had a big Madison-style barn on it. The barn had the high center part, and two wings, each 30' x 60'. The former owners had just built it earlier this year, and just before finishing it they sold the property. I went out there and spent two days removing all the roof and wall panels, all the ground contact treated 2x6's (easy 600 board feet), the girders, and finally took the tractor and boom pole over and pulled all the poles out. Brought the stuff home and stacked it up. I haven't even used 25% of it after building the shed, which I call my "RFC" - Rain-Free Complex. Sweet deal, huh?!

And my guess for TTF is 12K...

I like it! I have to build one. My toys don't like just getting covered anymore.
