Hello, I am thinking of rebuilding my 1976 Bayliner Skagitt into a pilothouse with an uper deck for the wife's suntanning and the lower deck all about fishing.I was just wandering if it would be worth it and if anybody as done the same or close to it and give me a few pointers. I am going to try to post a pic of the old girl and and the progress if its a-go. thanks

Re: Bayliner Rebuild

i would worry more about the drive on the boat BEFORE i got into a restore

It is 30 years old and it tends to take a lot of dollars to repiar tham ?

I'm confused, are you going to post a picture of your wife, or the boat?

A "pilothouse"? maybe a hardtop that'll hold a ladder and be able to have a roof that would be ok for suntanning? I've done something similar...

Re: Bayliner Rebuild

I've had the drive apart when I put a new engine in and all looks well. thats why I thought I'd do the rebuild.I have been running this boat for 3 years.Everything runs and works fine.
Ps if I called my wife " the old girl" do you think I'd have the boat lol.

Just my opinion - I don't think that hull design would lend itself to having that much weight that far forward - what you describe would have to be pretty heavy to make it high & strong enough.

Re: Bayliner Rebuild

Have you thought about just adding a half tower? It's a common way to add what you’re looking for. You can have one built with a hard top and you’re on your way. Add a full canvas enclosure if your looking for some protection from the elements. A custom aluminum fabricator can build you one and simply bolt it on. Your not adding a lot of extra weight just some extra drag. The best part is that a half tower will add value to the boat while customizing (it unless you do a really nice job) will limit your potential resale buyers and most likely decrease the value. Think it will give you everything you are looking for and will be the easiest way to get the results your looking for.
