Get some education from the experts. There's pink, the blue stuff, 50/50, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol. I thinking engine block not water system, head etc.

Does it need to be diluted with H20? or straight? Why wouldn't you just put in straight instead of diluting with water or windshield fluid.

I forgot to add. -50 ...-100. If minus 50 is really protective to that temperature. Why would you need a minus 100?

Re: Anti-Freeze 101

No expert - just sharing 18 yrs of experience. I use Peak propylene glycol with rust preventative. It is pre-mixed - just pour it in. Good to -50F. (If you are where it goes below -50 F, you should have a dogsled, not a boat). :p PG is the least toxic AF for winterizing - but not very good in a closed system for extended use (most mfrs specifically say not to use it for that).

Re: Anti-Freeze 101

Summerwind, If you are filling an engine block or manifold, use full strength AF. That way, if there is some residual water, the antifreeze will not be diluted. I use the green antomotive stuff, and drain and reuse it each winter. I like the fact that is has anti-rust properties. For those rare areas where the temp may drop below what the full strength AF is rated for, I would add the smallest amount of water to lower the freeze point to cover the expected temp. Since straight AF is good for -50, I guess this would only apply to the far north.

Be sure to use the non-toxic stuff (pink) for the head, freshwater system, sink, drain etc.

BanFrost 2000, good to -100, w/rust pkg. Reuse each year, and can handle the small amount of dilution from the little bit of water you can never drain out.

Re: Anti-Freeze 101

Many here like to store the block and manifolds dry / empty.Nothing to freeze.I prefer to store with 50/50 auto af.Charlie
