What i dont understand is, if the oil shale is already ther, how is the water quality not already impacted?

looks good as far as the in vetro or in sutro or watever, could u imagine the hupla if it were pit mined tho. im not a hippie or an environmentalist, but nothin looks worse that a pit-mine.

It is being pit mined.Currently it is heated and rendered ,using natural gas.The energy equivalent of 4.2 gallons of gasoline is used to render one gallon.The oilsands of Alberta look something awful and unless there are some very strict laws dealing with reshaping the pits with somebody to enforce these laws,earth will get another real ugly scar.
