Pulled the boat today..........

Did the normal.........first cleaned the hull, (first time I used On & Off from West Marine.......great product), then flushed with fresh water.

I then proceeded to pull the outdrive........didn't come off to easily, needed some help after about an inch or so.......then it came right off. After it came off I realized why it didn't slide right off, I forgot to put it in fwd!!!! Do you think I caused any damage? I used a 3/8" ratched to pry in between the O/D and the gimbal housing, didn't require much force, I was rocking it up and down at the same time.

Everything else looked fine...........nice and dry inside the bellows.........

Took me most of the day between the cleaning, flushing with A/F, changing the oil, etc..........i'm sore!!

The end to an ALMOST trouble free season.

Re: Winterized.............

Hi Tony,......

Have a Close Look at the Shift Shaft,.......

IF you did Any damage,..... There might be a Bend in it near the Top........

$uck$ Don't It,......
I pulled the Houseboat yesterday,+ have the Starcraft sitting in the driveway all Drained.........

I'm holding off on finishing it up Just Yet,.....

There's Got to be Another Day of Fishing left,...??......

Hi Bondo..........

You mean the shift shaft on the O/D?

Didn't look like anything was bent..........I couldn't believe I forgot to put it in fwd!!!

If the gear lube looks clean in the O/D.......think I am going to leave the impeller alone this year and just change the gear lube. Aren't the impellers good for 2 yrs? Probably put between 150-200hrs on the boat this season.

Weather is supposed to be nice this week............but I hate doing the maintanance when it's really cold...........kinda glad it's behind me.

Now need to work on a honey-do-list............wife is getting a little...........impatient...... about some stuff that needs to be done around the house.

Yep, it's brass and bends fairly easy, if it is bent, it's not that big a deal to replace. If they are bent, they bind and usually cause the shift cable to act like its stiff and kills the engine.
Look close, something has to bend for it to come apart when not in fwd.

PS. As I recall you have a newer engine (92) but not an Alpha I Gen II drive, just the Alpha I drive, or am I not remembering correctly?

I can't remember Which drive you've got Either,......

Either way,......
Ayuh, I'm saying the Outdrive side of the thing,.....
The Gen.II has a SSteel 1,... But It'll Bend......
The Transom Side is alittle more stout,.....
Ya gotta be in Reverse to Bend that 1......d:)

And the Impeller,......
I hear the Gen IIs do better that the A1s do,...... Donno.....

In My A1,....
I ran a Globe Marine Impeller for 3 years,+ pulled it for a Change last Spring,.......
It STILL Looks Brand New......
It's made of some Slippery feeling Blue rubber or something,......
I'm Thinking of throwing it Back in,....d:)

I went back in with a Sierra kit,...... I didn't run near the Hours this year,... Or last,....
I'll get another year out this This 1,.......

You should be fine,+ If Not,..... A Mid-season change isn't All That Bad,.......

Re: Winterized.............

Yeah...........I will take another look at the shift shaft tonight.........seemed to shift by hand OK.

If the lube looks ok and the shift shaft is OK I'm just going to change the lube and grease the u-joints.

Then I will be ready for next spring!

Already thinking of a couple of other winter projects: installing a windlass and bow pulpit and converting my GPS to a sounder.............:)

Think I got lucky............

Took a close look last night............doesn't look like the shaft is bent at all.

Might drain the lube tonight...............

Re: Winterized.............

Ayuh,.............. I don't knows that I'd run it Dry for 15 Minutes,.....
Or At All,..........

But it's Pretty Cool,.....

I was in a Rush as Usual last Spring,... I Had the Seirra complete Kit, so I just threw it In,.....
I actually might pop this 1 Back in over winter to See just how long it might Last,......

And,.....
Whenever I anticipate having to Change another 1,.......
I'll be using These Things,......

I Wonder if any of iboats markerters have a line on these things,.....
I bought a couple of them a few years ago from that Other boating webboard that sells Parts,+ Charges you a Membership Fee for Full Featured Forums.....

Re: Winterized.............

Drained the gear lube last night............no signs of water.

Looks like I am just going to fill it back up, grease the u-joints and wait for spring!
