Uh, hmm...
CBC,I'm not sure what the situation is here, but the link in your post says the Democrats have taken the House of Reps by the needed number. There seems to be some confusion here.

I'm sure the data on the links get updated frequently but right now it shows Dems 223/Reps 190/ Inds 0 as of 1205 hrs CST.

CBC,

CNN has the House going to the Democrats and the Senate unknown at this time. Dems have picked up three seats in the Senate with three still undecided.
The Democrats would have to get all three of the undecided to gain control of the Senate.

Perhaps I am missing something?

Ever stop to think maybe CNN is biased?.... maybe not telling you the whole truth?

I'm thinking the BBC is closer to the truth in these "calls" before the votes are really in than CNN.

BBC has the House going to the Democrats too....And has the Senate too close to call. EXACTLY like CNN has it as far as I can see

224 to 192 in the House, with the Democrats in control.

Ok,

224/192 as of this time stamp 1222 CST.

As your post above at 1:14 Forum Time it shows the Republicans still have a three seat lead over the Democrats.

By the time I post this and you read it and reply the number will have changed in the House.

I'm bouncing around on all the new feeds, Reuteurs, Fox, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, AP, UPI. So far none have given the nod on the Senate to anyone. If I was betting I would say the Republicans will keep a slim majority in the Senate, although Hastert may not keep his leadership position.

Re: Election results...

CBC,

There will be interesting times ahead for all. President Bush will have to come to terms with a House controlled by a slim majority of the opposing party. The Senate may get a new leader. Both parties are either going to try to show the other one as the obstinate group or both parties will try to make nice for awhile. Too early to tell.

I have heard of a "100 (hour/day) promise made by the Democrats as to a plan of action. Neither party can claim a mandate. Now is the time for moderates to move forward and lead, othewise it just becomes a power struggle (go for broke) between the parties.

I hope rational thought prevails....

Re: Election results...

It will be interesting on the political front for awhile. I suspect both sides will be needing to make some sort of progress with their agenda while painting the other side into a corner. Again their focus will be own retaining power for their party and duty to country comes next.

Unfortunatly what becomes of this is our great nation has to drift upon the seas of world opinion and domestic consequences without a clear course to steer nor even a compass fix that it can trust.

I've read where President Bush plans on calling on Nancy Pelosi tomorrow and start some sort of dialog.
I sincerely hope they are able to put aside past differeneces and lead our nation.

In the mean time what we can do as citizens is to listen to each other with respect and to voice our differences with restraint. Otherwise we all will lose.

Republican Jim Talent had just conceded the election to McCaskill in the Missouri Senate race, Democratic candidate Webb has a small lead with a recount to decide the election in Virginia and Montana's race is tight with Democrat Tester leading Republican Burns by just less than 2%.

Sad but true for both parties. It reminds me of a relative I have that loves to argue and debate. After a point, the issue becomes insignificant in the zeal to win the debate.

Lame Duck? Some things never change. Does this mean he will no longer be getting things done?

Custom, you said;

Nah, I'm not going to say a word. You acknowledged it.

Re: Election results...

------------------------------
For the life of me I cannot fathom why intelligent people like PW, rolmops, et al, can stomach the likes of Pelosi, Dean, Kerry, Gore and oh, lest we forget, Tom Daschle.
---------------------------------

Because the alternative is people like W and Cheney and Frist and Delay.., etc.

Frankly, while generally pleased with the results, I can't help but be disappointed with the general quality of candidates across the board. Not a statesman in the bunch.
My senator, for example, is Debbie Stabenow and she is an inellectual lightweight, the best that can be said for her is she'll probably not cause too much harm.

The only one of the bunch that I really *wanted* elected was Harold Ford jr., and he lost.

Thucydides (480 BC) said "Those events which once occurred will, by human nature, occur again".

He had it spot-on.
We didn't learn from the last time the Demonrats held the power and we're in for it now.

We Americans can be such a stupid lot.
