Not sure the impact of this, but listening to W sounds like he is planning to embrace the findings of the Baker/Hamilton commission, and finally figure out a way out of Iraq.

Halleluiah!

Perhaps democracy can work after all!

(I wonder where we heard this before? Oh, yeah, I said that very thing two days ago!)

Re: Rummy out!

Obviously, he just wants to spend more quality time with his family. It's not related to his fooked up job performance.

Re: Rummy out!

If President Bush had done this three weeks ago and at the same time announced someone well respected in military affairs was taking over (not sure who that would be, just a general general) I think the Republicans would have kept the Senate.

I think the Presidents intractibility on the subject came at a steep price to his party.

Sure seems like he came up with Gates in a hurry didn’t it?

Text of President Bush's Statement Expressing Support For Defense Secretary Rumsfeld
The White House
Friday, April 14, 2006; 1:39 PM
STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT
have seen first-hand how Don relies upon our military commanders in the field and at the Pentagon to make decisions about how best to complete these missions. Secretary Rumsfeld's energetic and steady leadership is exactly what is needed at this critical period. He has my full support and deepest appreciation.

Good job Brownie/Rumy

November 8, 2006 -- U.S. President George W. Bush said Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will step down, one day after Democrats swept to victory in House elections in part on the back of a wave of public discontent with the war in Ira
Bush told reporters that "after a series of thoughtful conversations, Secretary Rumsfeld and I agreed that the timing is right for new leadership at the Pentagon."
Bush said he had offered Rumsfeld's post to a former head of the Central Intelligence Agency, Robert Gates.

Re: Rummy out!

What’s kind of funny/ironic is that the democrats (aka communists, same thing) victory in the elections (and it was nothing short of a stellar victory) is completely over-shadowed by Rummy tucking tail and running for higher ground.

Good for Rummy, America doesnt want a leader in charge of our safety. Only a fool would wait for Nancy and company to start the impeachment process. Enjoy the honeymoon....

Kudos to GWB and to Rumsfeld for waiting 'til after the election to avoid appearing to try to buy votes.

So will Rummy now go the way of Cheney?

That's kinda like being blown up by an IED just to show you're tough.

"Rummy" is a true Patriot. He served his country well, not only in military service but in public service.

An example that most can only try to emulate.

I will miss his "candidness". No spin, just the facts.

Re: Rummy out!

Probably had him step down when he did as a last ditch effort to gain support for a prospective Rep Presidential candidate in 08.In any case ,I'm sure the Dems will find a more peaceful solution to our middle eastern adversaries.Just be prepared to get your wallet out after/if their solutions materialize.
