Re: Clinton Motor ID
Some more info.My info only goes back to 1960.
Clinton has been out of business for some time. They did build motors for Montgomery Ward and other private labels. They use an air cooled power head with a water cooled exhaust leg with a pump. They produced a J-9 from 60-68 with a J-5 added in 65,66,67.J-9s are 5 hp
J-5 were 3 and 5 hp.Around 1970 they changed to a 3 digit system J200,J300 J350 With the numbers coresponding to the HP.IE: J200= 2hp J3.50 3 1/2 hp.etc.
My generic service manuals seem to indicate production stopped c. 1980.1980 models: K-201,K-350,K505(5 1/2hp),K550,(5 1/2 hp),K-751,K-753,K-900.
5 hp and smaller are 16:1 fuel mix, larger motors 48:1.
point gap is ..020 .And needs to be done accurately.
K-751,K-753 and K-900 are solid state ign.
K-150 fuel mix is 32:1,point gap is .015-.018 Armature air gap is .010.
I often use a file card to set the air gap. Most Generic service manuals for motors below 30 hp will give most of what you need for your motor.
