re-vamping an older crestliner with a 78 105 chrystler on her. it has a nice shaped 17 gallon gas tank but defintely has rust in it. i've cleaned the screen at the bottom and dumped the old gas and flushed with water. the inside looks average at best but it holds the gas. what's the deal with rust? i assume all older tanks must get a little rusty. will the filter catch it? will adding a small inline filter prior to the motor work? or just can it and go with a new plactic one??
thnx all........

If its got rust in it, its just a matter of time before it starts leaking.

Just run a new 6 gallon plastic tank, and another for a spare..just switch the line when needed...

Voice of experience: the filter won't catch it all - you'll find particles in the carb. Plastic tanks are better...lighter, more durable.

I just picked up a plastic on for my boat with the same problem for $60 shipped. IT is a lot simpler to work with then the old unit. Technology rules
