Hi guys. Could someone please tell me what the torque setting is for the cap plate on an Alpha one outdrive. I'm installing a drive shower and I have to take off two of the 4 bolts that hold it on. Thanks so much for the help.

I believe those are 3/8ths" Bolts,........ That would be about 30/35ft.lbs. Torque..........

If I'm mistaken,+ they're 5/16th",....... That would be about 20/25ft.lbs.......

But I'm Pretty Sure they're 3/8ths"...........

Re: Torque setting for Alpha Drive

Thanks again for the help. Nice diagram Don, thanks. I checked, with a torque wrench, how tight the bolts were before I took them out. They were set very close to 30 foot pounds so that's what I retouqued them to. I got the drive shower installed, now I just need to lake test it. :) Thanks and take care.

Re: Torque setting for Alpha Drive

Why would you retorque them for that reason.
The slightest amount of corrosion could have caused them to break loose at a higher torque, even the seal on the threads. You have now overtorqued them and you possibly have too much preload on the bearings. Didn't that diagram from the service manual explain anything?

It's probably a good thing one of those bolts wasn't froze solid in the housing, hate to think what the torque would be.

okay, can the bolts be loosened and then retorqued? Or do I need a new gasket now? The seal never broke as far as I can tell and the motor hasn't been run yet.

Ayuh,....... sure Can.......

"Or do I need a new gasket now?"

Nope,... Shouldn't need it,... As long as it hasn't been Disturbed........

Okay, thanks bond-o. The cap never moved and I've got them set at 20 pounds. I'll re-torque after the first run.
