Last week the waste pipes in the house backed up and sewage was pouring out of the old cloths washer discharge pipe in the basement. At least it was in my work shop and not in the finished part of the basement.
So I pick up a snake from the rental store and run about 20 feet of snake in the 4" main and hit something "squishy" feeling in the pipe. Pulled out what looked like shredded cotton baby wipes. The type you are NOT supposed to flush. Well, I figured I pushed the clog through to the septic tank and filled two bath tubs up stairs, then let them drain and nothing bubbled out the washer pipe. Gave the kids a firm lecture on not flushing wipes, and took them out of the bathrooms so the littlest (3 years old) would not be tempted to flush them.
Last night the same thing happened and this time it was worse. More sewage all over the floor of the shop. So I called a plumber to come clean the 4" drain figuring I didn't do a good job.
The plumber called me back, said it would cost $250 to come do it. Told me it would cost more if he had to dig up the cleanout on the tank outside. So I did it. Spent an hour in the dark digging around about 18" deep in the lawn and finally found a 12" round concrete cap. When I pulled it up, to my surprise was a huge clog of diapers! So I pulled out wads of expanded diapers and WOOSH! the water came flowing from the house into the tank.
So the plumber calls a little while later and asks if I found the cleanout. I told him I did and removed the clog and everything seems to be working well. He told me to get a length of 6" pvc and a cap and fit it in the tank so next time I just have to pull the cap and not dig around. So I did. Great guy! No charge, good advice. He is going to be first on my list next time I need a plumber.
So I go ask my litte boy if he flushed some diapers in the toilet. He thinks a moment, then says with a big smile YEAH!
He is lucky he is so cute. Thats why he is still alive today.
