Does it run rough when revving it high? A two barrel carburtor has two main fuel circuits, idle and not idle. The adjustment screws is just for the idle circuit. You may need to remove and have the carb rebuilt of buy a rebuilt carb do to plugage in the idle circuit passages.

No, it sounds fine. The carb is brand new.

Amen to that. A few years ago I had the 20+ year old OEM fuel pump to carb cotton braided/rubber fuel line replaced by a Volvo dealer with the updated Volvo replacement aluminum line only to have it develop a crack in it less than a year later while I was running and 13 miles from my launch point. Luckily, I smelled gas and immediately shut the engine down, and investigated to find the the aluminum line had cracked and fuel was leaking all over the engine. From what I could tell, the dealer neglected to secure the new line properly and engine vibration over time caused stress a few inches from the carb fitting that eventually resulted in a crack in the line which could have very easily resulted in a fire or worse.

This may be a long shot, but is your shift interrupt switch set right? Maybe your engine does fine when you rev it, but when you bring the throttle back towards neutral, the shift interrupt kills it.

Odd that Volvo would use aluminum for a fuel line when it is not one of the materials approved by the USCG for metal fuel lines.

It very well may not have been aluminum. I just assumed it was since it seemed much lighter in weight and "softer" than other metal lines I have seen. Needless to say, because of my experience and the cost ($180) I did not purchase another Volvo OEM line.

P.S. in reading the regulation link above, the line from the fuel pump to the carb does not have to be made of the materials mentioned.

"Metal fuel lines used on the engine, i.e. the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburetor, may be made of materials other than those listed. This line is usually supplied with the engine."

Where can you buy metal fuel line, is it the same grade as a automotive fuel line?

Read the very first reply in this thread. Should answer your question.

Is this a new boat for you?
Since you have owned it, has it ever idled correctly?
Have you checked to see if the throttle control cable is set correctly?
Have you tried adjusting the idle speed?
Is the timing set correctly?
Can you maintain a constant engine speed above idle, or do you need to continually pump the throttle to keep it running?

Answer these questions and we should be able to point you in the right direction, that direction may be towards your nearest merc dealer but for now lets get some info.

He fixed it paulie. In another thread he admited to not having a baseplate gasket on it (the one between the carb and the manifold :% ). Installed it, and she ran fine.
