Re: double head gasket?

Two head gaskets will work if they're like the metal small block Chevy gaskets. They have grooves that will interlock into each other. Unfortunately outboard gaskets aren't made like that. There's nothing to lock the two fire rings together and compression will blow right between them. Trust me.

Re: double head gasket?

so what should I do?

I cannot find a low compression head gasket it seem to be unavailibe.

I could have the pistons shaved but they have a coating on top and the manufacture told me not to.

Or I coul have the head ustom machined?

What would you guys do or have done?

Thanks for the input
Chris

Re: double head gasket?

To get some more specific answers we need to know exactly what you're trying to do.

What year is the motor?

Re: double head gasket?

Maybe explaining why the piston to head clearance is off would maybe help mopar. Heads warped/damaged?

Re: double head gasket?

It is a 1983 60 hp 2 cyl looper
I have decked the block and have piston protrustion of .015 ant the stock head gasket is only .040 thick an wiesco wants .030 piston/head clearence.

The machinist told me he machined .008 off the deck. so the pistons must protrude in stock form?

Thanks

Re: double head gasket?

Easy now, I doubt that Wiseco gave you that .030 spec. Let's not get any rumors started. Some pistons on some model blocks do come out past the deck.

What's the casting number on the head you have?

Re: double head gasket?

Thats what wiesco told me.
The head was cut as well.
The casting number is 325602

Re: double head gasket?

He didn't give you .030 as a spec for dome to head clearance. A spec like that would have had to come from OMC and OMC never gave them that spec. Besides, it depends on what head you're using. There are more than one that is used with that piston.

At any rate, if you're sure the piston is going to hit the head because the block and the head were cut then you need a different head. Since your block has been cut and the head as well, if I were doing it I'd look for a 325603 head that hasn't been cut. The 603 head has a bit more clearance than the 602.

Re: double head gasket?

my head that i have now has a flat surface and combustion chamber so cutting the head makes no difference in piston/head clearence. only cutting the deck reduces clearence. So unless the new head has releifs cut into the area around the combustion chamber than it will not help me.

Why is there a low compression head gasket for almost every engine than the one I have?? Doesn't make sense, someone else must have been in the situation that I am in at some point in time?

the man at wiesco made refrence of a commercial cyl head that had relief in it to compensate for piston protrusion. But I have no idea how to go about finding one it is not listed as a part for my motor.

Thank you for the help!
Chris

guess I should not have tried to save this engine.

Re: double head gasket?

Ok sounds good.
Do you know how much more clearence I will get out of this head?

guess omc did not want to make an easy way out for this one.

Thanks alot for your help.

Re: double head gasket?

I found a used parts place that has a 325602 head and a 325603 head and the person there says the heads have identical combustion chambers. So how is this head going to help me? I'm confused

Thanks for the help,
Chris
