Removed old transducer today.

When I removed one of the screws a stream of clear water came out of the hole.

I am suspecting whoever installed this transducer he must have drilled right through the transom and, thw water that came out was from inside the boat.

Plan is to sand off the bottom paint in this area and fill in the holes with MarineTex........is this a good plan?

Marine Tex is as good as you can get for that application. The concern is of course is did the water that came out come from the plywood core of the transom. If so you best check for rot in the transom.

I'm assuming you cannot see the hole on the inside? If you can't, there shouldn't be water in there either.

I am going to try and push a piece of wire through tomorrow and see if I can locate the hole from the inside.

There you go. Sometimes you can also shine a flashlight through, at night. THat is actually easier to see.

Well...........the hole doesn't go all the way through.

I will be doing the "ping" method test later this morning............
If all is well as I am hoping............then what do I do?

Ping test seems ok............

Just so happens a support brackect for the swim platfrom is directly above where the water came out...........thinking of removing this screw and re-bedding.

The bilge drain seems fine also..........

I would Think that the Best you could do at This Point,......
Is to Dry it out as much as Possible,+ Plug it with Epoxy.....

Luckily,....... Saltwater Pickles the Wood,....... Freshwater will Rot it......

Think I found something else.............

While grindin/sanding the area free of bottom paint, I found a broken screw right next to one of the ones that water came out of. Head was broben off, but at this point it wasn't very tight. I am guessing this is where the intrusion came from. I am going to clean the entire area and leave open un til spring............then I will seal with Marine Tex..........
