What do you think about that? I'm not for anybody getting it free, but the thought of employees getting it is good. I just can't see BK and McD providing it, but at least the increased cost of everything we'd buy would not be going to buying junk, but healthcare coverage.

Basically, if you are employed full time, you can receive health insurance. That's what I mean.

I dunno, just a thought. What do you guys think?

Re: Mandatory health insurance for employees....

I think that My Employer would No Longer be in Business...............

He's 1 of those Mega Corps..........
For the last 14 years it's been Him, Me,+ a secretary,......
Every season he hires about 4 to 6 other guys, that Might last a full season,...that's 26 weeks......
1 or 2 of them might return for a second season,... A few have done 3 seasons,...
Then it's Start all over again.......

IF he had to supply Health Ins. for All of us, at $500.+ a month,.......
He Couldn't sell a Driveway for enough Money to cover the Materials,+ Ins. costs to make it worth it.........
And we all know you can't Give Away your services.........

Everybody Forgets that it's the Small Employers that Drive the economy.............
These are the Little Guys who Gross less than a Million a year,.... Pay Taxes on that money,.....
And,.... Barely end up with a Living in the End.......

I Don't have the Answer to the Health Ins. issue,.......
But I Don't Think a Goverment Mandate is the Answer........

Any government mandate just creates an element for corruption. Would just be another segment for sticky fingers to go to work on. I believe in the ole saying "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure"

Better limits on lawsuits for the healthcare providers, and limits on the profits that lawyers can make on the suits would help bring down costs.

Just cross over to Mexico and sneak back into the U.S.A.
Then all health care will be free to you and your family.

They should have to provide access TO IT through a group plan BUT NOT PAY for it

We have 3 levels of coverage to suit what you can affford to pay

If you dont have it we all pay for it anyway when the hospital gets stiffed on the bill

Then everyone would be converted to part time.

My employer is already trying to replace us (me) with part time workers so they don't have to pay benefits.

The bottom line is this, a job is worth $xx to the employer.
Example: the employer is willing to pay $10 to have you make a part.
If he has to pay you more than $10, then the final cost of the product to the customer will be too high, and he won't be able to sell it.

If the price of the product is too high, the product doesn't sell.
Adding insurance costs to the price of some products increases the price too much.

Who the **** gave government at any level the right to tell business (any business) what benefits they have to offer employees? My ability to attract quality employees should dictate what benefits I offer, not the freakin government!

Curmedgeon, the answer to your question, liberals. Most frequently democrats but they go by many names. They frequently traffic in guilt and equality. Fairness is not their concern. Laws are nothing but minor inconveniences to them.

That is the bottom line. Even with "employee pay themselves" group plans, anything mandated by the Government will cost employers in paperwork, and employees just because it is mandated... it always does.

Re: Mandatory health insurance for employees....

If they want to provide access to it, great. If they elect to pay for a portion or all of it as a benefit, great. Should they be required to? No. It screws them as an employer and it screws me as a consumer by limiting my choice. This is ridiculous.

<sarcasm>Now as someone leaning slightly right of center (communist right?) it seems my values are all out of whack.</sarcasm>

I believe you are pretty much on course to becoming a "neo-consevative"... from "Wikipedia"

Irving Kristol remarked that a neoconservative is a "liberal mugged by reality," one who became more conservative after seeing the results of liberal policies.

The liberal talk radio has vilified the term "neo-con", and most of the lib posters here have fallen right into that nonclementure... of course we all know what happened to that show.... bankrupt.

Most of the new seats in Congress could be termed "Neo-con", just look at the way the yet to be seated Congress has pulled together behind Nancy with her high flier Murtha, and her embarrassment with Rangel.

You ain’t a Commi, you’re just slowly coming around to a real understanding of the way the real world works... kinda like when you found out the truth about the tooth fairy.... it hurts, but the truth usually does.

It's a great idea if left to Market forces... and the employee market force almost requires it to be competitive. It's just a bad idea if mandated by Big Brother... that let's in the idea the insurance Co's can charge all they want for that coverage because it is mandated... see the difference?

Well, all the forums' heavy hitting Lefties have yet to weigh in here. You can be sure what their answer would be. Not only should employers be forced to pay for healthcare (look what they tried to do in the east to Wallmart) the very basest job should be required to pay a 'living' wage.

Oh, the coming struggle is going to be large! We are just hearing the beginning of it now and they have not even taken office yet.

Just always remember, "a rose by any other name....." whether it starts with a C or an S.

And you can all be sure that, with this last election, Hillary is really licking her chops. She still has grand visions of National Health care dancing thru her head.

I can foresee that inflation will increase soon, because of not only Insurance demands on employers, neo-libs also want to raise my taxes. Well, corporations are only tax collectors, prices will go up on everything. Inflation will rise, and a new recession (whcih is already forecast) will be coming within 12 to 18 months. The only question will be, who will the media blame & how can they pin it on Bush.

Thanks to all those who voted for these !!!!!! holes.

Like it has allready been mentioned, I have to compete for good employees, I already pay for insurance to attract the people I need to compete.

Actually more than the tax increase is passed on to the consumer... a real simplified example:

Company A manufactures a twiget that cost them $2.00 to produce that they sell for $3.00 per twiget... for a profit of 50%.

The government comes in and requires them to give health insurance to all employees, there by raising the cost of producing the twiget to $3.00.... a $1.00 increase or tax.

To make the same 50% profit on their investment in making twigets, they now have to sell them for $4.50 each. The cost to consumers is 150% of the new tax.

Yes, I can, but big brother already mandates auto insurance for drivers, thats a reason I feel I'm paying out of my teeth in insurance. In 7 years I payed enough money to insure my truck than it's was worth new. Now every 4 years or so I pay for my truck over and over in insurance I have never used.

My idea sucks, but mandatory insurance for drivers sucks as well! LOL
