Re: What make and what horsepower rating?

My little 14' foot fiberglass boat is rated for 25hp max (i have a 20 on it). I doubt a 25 on that little aluminum boat would be safe. I'm thinking 9-15 range.

It looks like a Larson boat, but there were so many that came out in that style that one would really have to know his boats to identify it from that pic.

on mine the 15hp was plenty, had to put remote to the center seat to operate alone. at 9.9hp would be a great small lake motor for that boat.

That Ain't a Bad Deal for a 13' Tin Rowboat,........

I paid $200.00 for an Old 1960s 12' Tin Rowboat last year,......
And I Didn't get a Trailer............d:)

I'd think a 10hp on your boat would, or Could be a Thrilling ride at times.........

A 15hp would almost be Suicidal..............................d:)

I am glad yall said a 10 will push it well because thats what the lakes that I bought it for restrict. As for determining make I was just curious but will try to post more pics when I pick it up on saturday. Right now its is gonna be pushed by grampas old 10 # thrust trolling motor since my favorite lake is elec. only. I would like to get a 30 # thrust for the elec. lakes and a 9.9 for the rest.

Pictures to help determine horsepower rating should be up tomorow if I can get HP to cooperate. At this point the score is:
Technology - 1
Bassboy1 - 0

Nice boat, I have a 12' 1975 Sea King aluminum boat similar to yours. I believe mine was a former camp ground boat but I got it with an older 3 speed trolling motor for $80. It has some rivets leaking but other than that it's a decent boat.

I have been running a Briggs 5hp 4 cycle on it but am reworking my 1954 2 cylinder Monty Wards Sea King Five (5HP). The Briggs won't plane it out but I think the Monty will. It seems a much better motor.

W/ the site that willyclay gave me it can hold a 25 horsepower motor. I'm thinking that might be a little too much.

As for make I have so far gotten 3 different answers. I don't really care but I was just curious. I guess nobody really knows.

I just got a 14' Sea Nymph that looks about the same size as that one. I ran a 5 bhp Briggs & Stratton POS on it a couple of weeks ago with me and my 13YO on board, small ice chest and 3 gallons of fuel, not much else. Anyway, it easily planed and ran 11.7 MPH WOT GPS . . . If I moved forward, or went one hole in on the trim, it would start to drive the bow down and get kinda wet and scary. I think you'd be asking for trouble with a 15, and even a 9.9 could be harry if trimmed wrong. My .02.

I think you'd be fine with a 9.9hp but a 25hp wouldn't be too unreasonable. A friend of mine runs a fresh-rebuilt 20hp merc on his 12' tinny and it does around 35mph, so an older 25hp on a 13' would probably be similar.

Re: What make and what horsepower rating? (pix added)

I was just curious as to what it is rated for. I will not put any higher than a ten on it because that is the limit on the lakes I bought it for. And, I have a larger boat w/ a 50 to tackle the larger lakes. I am just at the point where curiosity is all to common.
