My 140 ran great this past weekend was really impressed except for a little porpoising it was fine, but we ran 12 or 14 or so miles up the rio grand and fished all day on the way back it ran good for about 5 miles or so and started cutting out, didnt lose any RPM but it would cut out and instantly pick back up and it did it 2 or 3 times on the way back. do i need to clean and rebuild the carbs or do i have another problem the season is over and the nearest lake that is deep enough to open the boat up in is 4 hours away.

Derek

on a side note- I would like to thank all of you guys in gettin my old boat goin so i could make the last trip of the season and see my BIL's face when i shot my 30 year old boat outta the water and it take him a good 45 seconds to catch me with his new to him bass cat. so thanks again

You may have to do the carbs but the first thing I would lok for is an air leak at at one of the fuel line connections. Another possibility is a bit of water in the fuel. Do you have a fuel filter/water seperator?

Check all your wiring too. Especially grounds.

Fuel issues do not usually cause an engine to just fall flat. That issue sounds more electrical in nature.

I'm with Walker, check the grounds, especially the battery to engine block ground. Don't just look at it, take it off and clean it.

could be a fuel vent problem, my 88spl did that at wot, would cut back and pick up, the primer bulb was collasping, when it would drop off, it gave just enough relief to let the fuel start flowing again, then repeat., did it 10 or 12 times, then didn't do it again.

I would absolutely remove the in-line filter and install a fuel/water separator, especially if you are starting to use ethanol fuel. We have had it here for 3 years and the fuel/water separator has proven to be one of the main lines of defense in dealing with the problems associated with ethanol.

Even if this is not causing your problem, eventually you will run into a problem, due to not having a separator on it.

P.S. I was talking with my local Bomby dealer the other day and he said he just got back from a conference in Oregon, associated with Seaswirl (he's a Striper dealer also), and there was a lot fo discussion on ethanol, and that more times than not the fuel is way higher than 10% Ethanol. More like 20 - 25% Ethanol. Scary to think about that inside your tank and engine, huh?
