'69 Merc 200 20hp:
In the last few weeks I have rebuilt the carb and the fuel pump (including hoses and brass elbows). This week I replaced the inlet needle, seat (made sure levers were measured correctly), and gasket because the old seat was not the right part; caused leaks. The motor was beginning to sound and run better until I replaced the needle. Now the engine fires up with a surge and almost immediately dies, with or without the choke engaged. My guess is maybe I tweaked the motor to run with the bad part; now it's all wrong. Any ideas as to why there would be such a dramatic turn-around and what I can do to get it back running good?
Also, this is a dumb question, but does this motor have REVERSE??? I thought it did but it acts like it doesn't now. I'm confused...
