I removed all the 4 bolts and the one nut in the back. It dropped about and inch but will not move anymore. I tried pretty hard to get it forcefully but dont want to break it. I didnt think it would be this hard considering it was pulled off in the spring when the mechanic replaced the water pump. Am i missing something here?

Did you remove the shift clamp cover and loosen the shift clamp screw.
If everything is done then the drive shaft may be stuck.
Sometimes if you remove the plugs and crank it over it may come loose.Sometimes if too much grease is on the driveshaft spline it will become locked in the crank. Also if the oring wasn't installed the shaft may be stuck with corrosion.

You say it dropped an inch? You haven't removed the screw from the shift rod connector. I would have to look it up to see where it is located on that year, but it is either in the 1" gap where it dropped down, or behind an oval plate on the side of the housing about half-way down the leg.

This is why we often reccomend a manual, especially the factory one.Your shift linkage must be disconnected.

It is located on the lower unit behind the plastic water intake screens.

A bit more than just removing a screw though.

Sounds like you jammed it up trying to force the lower unit off. No More Using Pry Bars To Get The Engine Apart !!
