OMC set the ratio at 50:1 for all 1964 and later engines, shipwreck, but several of our most experienced OMC-sperts recommend sticking with 24:1 in the smaller engines up to about 1970.

Therefore I recommend 24:1 because i trust Paul Moir more than I do OMC.

In my book, 50:1 is fine. But the 1964 owner's book says 24:1 But that same year, OMC came out with their own oil and said 50:1, using their oil only. Then everybody else came out with TCW oil for 50:1 mix also.

So, I say 50:1 for my motors, but if I say 50:1 for your motor and it self-destructs you will blame me, no matter what the REAL reason was.

You decide.

The real issue is that if the bearings on the motor are bronze, 24:1. If they are steel, 50:1. Obviously, noone wants to guess so you are stuck with 24:1. If the engine is really from 1964, the bearings are probably steel.

"Sport 4" is a misleading model number, shipwreck.

Please be specific.

For the 60hp 50:1 is the recommended mix.

there is no more id that can be provide for the engine , it is 60 hp ,electric start with belt drive disturb.,four cycle and no id tags anywhere.

i make for 1964-1968 ?

Did you look for a soft plug on the powerhead with a number on it?
I was told by a 50+ years OMC dealer 50:1 on larger motors back to 1960.Also the old fat four
50 hp was introduced at 50:1 in 58.
If you think about it the old fat 4 was only putting out
about 12.5 hp per cylinder compared to 17.5 hp on the old 58 35 hp. twins. And talk about a gas hog.But a really cool sound.

You are correct, the 60hp Sportfour was made 1964-1968. 50:1 was the mix on '65-'68 and there wasn't much difference, if any, inside or out. You figure it out. There are no bronze bearings in any of them.
