Thanks everyone for your replys to my first post. I am trying to figure out which boat to buy. I want a deep V, but the second boat that I am looking at has me confused. Is it a deep V or not. The green one is $850.00, and the white one is about $1500.00. What do you think ?

Re: What makes a boat a deep V hull ??

When you see the reference to deep V, that is a characteristic that is measured at the transom. When you look at the transom (or back of the boat), look at the bottom. If that bottom is flat or has a minimal amount of V to it, like the green boat in your pictures, that is considered a semi-V. The only V portion to that boat is the entry, or bow. If you look, it transitions to near flat at the transom.

A true deep-V has very noticeable V on the bottom at the transom. This V is consistant from the bow to the transom. Usually a true deep V is something you see on larger boats and is measured in degrees above around 18 degrees. I cannot see the transom of the second boat, but most boats of that size are semi-V hulls. Hope that helps..

In this small a boat I would worry as much about the hull dimensions as what flavor of "V" it has. Bigger boat wins.

Good Explaination,.......

Those 2 boats are the Same hull,.......

Same hull Pattern that Starcraft has been using since the early 60s for Everything from 12' to 20something'........

I'd base My decision on the Power,......
The Boats are the Same,.. Just that 1s Cleaner......
Trailers look comparable too....

Check the demensions of both boats width at the chine actual length, deepest part, height of sides at transom. and the height of the transom.A boat with a good big foot print will tend to plane easier with less horsepower especially with a load.A boat with a 20 inch transom will have slightly more capacity size for size and water will slop over the transom less.
It appears the white boat is deeper or the seats are placed lower.Check the capacity plates.

The white one has seen far less use. I'd be more concerned with the rivets leaking on the older one than it's V design. They both appear quite similar in their shape.
Also, that's quite an old Merc and the yammy looks far newer too. You get what you pay for in this comparision.
