Dear board,

I have been told that the Hummingbird fish finder IE: the matrix 17 has a different sonar frequency then the Eagle 320? I currently have an Eagle 320 and want to add a second fish finder to the boat. To do this I want to run two transducers off the stern. This will allow me to leave both on at all times. One for the bow and one at the wheel. I have been told that to run two eagle transducers off the stern with cause interferience. I can only think that to run two Hummingbirds off the stern will result in the same problem. Does running two different systems solve this issue?

Great boards. Nice place to gather solid info so one day we can also pass it along.

I don't know first hand, but I would bet that the tranducers would interfere with each other being that close together, even if they are different frequencies. Lets see what others have to say...

Re: Question re:transducer freq's.

I have a question and an experience. Question -- do you have bow mounted trolling and if so, why not mount the transducer on the motor? Experience: I had two Eagles using the same frequency on my last boat and the only interference I had was on the AM dial on my radio. Locators worked fine. I have a PinPoint on the bow and an Eagle on the console of my current boat with no problem. I also generally fish in less than 50 feet of water. If you cover deeper water it may be an issue regardless where you mount the transducer.

Re: Question re:transducer freq's.

Silvertip I do have a bow mounted TM but am trying to avoid placing it on the TM. If on the TM it requires me to have to remember to turn it on and off each time I drop it in the water. No big deal but would rather find another solution. The water I fish in the San Diego bay area is 15 ft or less most of the time. Nice to hear that you have run two Eagles at the same time without a problem. I have a friend that has a portable Eagle unit so I will try that this weekend with my onboard electronics to see if I run into problems.

Thanks for your input.

Re: Question re:transducer freq's.

You turn the trolling motor off when stowing it, can't believe it wouldn't become a habit for turning off the locator at the same time. In fact I turn off the locator first then stow the motor.Besides, don't you want to know what's directly under you rather than what you went over a short time ago. In shallow water that's important.

I never turn mine off when jumping from one spot to another and have had no problems.(320c eagle) Just messes up the temp for a few minutes.

Re: Question re:transducer freq's.

Silvertip and Lowe160, all good points. I have been told that letting the fishfinder unit remain when it is not in the water can ruin the transducer. Any truth to this?

May end up with putting it on the TM but first want to experiment with the other units this weekend. Will let you know.

If forgetfulness is a problem, wire the locator into the power switch on the trolling motor. When it's off, the locator is off.
