saddam to hang within 30 days. If it happens within the 30 days, I like the way they carry out death sentences better than we do. Heck a guy be on death row for 20 YEARS here. I say one appeal, then to the gallows with you. Rope is much cheaper tha the leathal injection (which the ACLU says is inhumane ACLU), so just hang 'em!
And make it public. So if you don't want to hang, don't do the crime that will get you there.

Did you read about his letter? I do believe his own mortality has become real to him, of course it meant nothing to his loyal followers, they vow vengeance on both Israel and The US.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein called on Iraqis not to hate the U.S.-led forces that invaded Iraq in 2003 in a farewell letter posted on a Web site Wednesday, a day after an appeals court upheld the former dictator’s death sentence and ordered him to be hanged within one month.

One of Saddam’s attorneys, Issam Ghazzawi, confirmed to The Associated Press in Jordan that the letter was authentic, saying it was written by Saddam on Nov. 5 — the day he was convicted by an Iraqi tribunal for ordering the killings of scores of Shiite Muslims in the city of Dujail in 1982.

“I call on you not to hate because hate does not leave space for a person to be fair and it makes you blind and closes all doors of thinking,” the letter said.

Ghazzawi said the letter was released on Tuesday and published on Saddam’s former Baath Party’s Web site on Wednesday.

The deposed leader said he was writing the letter because his lawyers had told him the Iraqi High Tribunal which tried his case would give him an opportunity to say a final word.

“But that court and its chief judge did not give us the chance to say a word, and issued its verdict without explanation and read out the sentence — dictated by the invaders — without presenting the evidence,” Saddam wrote.

“Dear faithful people,” Saddam added, “I say goodbye to you, but I will be with the merciful God who helps those who take refuge in him and who will never disappoint any honest believer.”

BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
Saddam Hussein, due to be hanged within 30 days, said his execution should be seen as a sacrifice for the nation and called on Iraqis to unite and fight U.S. forces in the country.

"Here I offer myself in sacrifice," Saddam said in a letter obtained from his defense lawyers in Jordan on Wednesday. "If my soul goes down this path (of martyrdom) it will face God in serenity."

The defense team said he had dictated it shortly after he was sentenced to death in November for crimes against humanity. The Iraqi High Tribunal appeals court upheld the sentence on Tuesday and said Saddam should be hanged within 30 days.

Saddam's execution will come as
President Bush looks to usher in a new era for U.S. policy in
Iraq amid public anger at home over rising U.S. casualties.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, a Shi'ite Islamist who heads a national unity government that also includes Sunni Arabs and ethnic Kurds, has said Saddam's execution cannot come soon enough. But he faces the challenge of implementing the sentence without fuelling sectarian and political tensions.

Saddam's Baath party threatened to retaliate if the ousted leader was executed: "Our party warns again of the results of carrying out such a verdict, on the situation in Iraq and America in particular," read a statement posted on the Internet.

"It is the most dangerous red line that the American administration should not cross," said the statement, which could not be independently verified.

In his letter, which was also posted on a Web Site on Wednesday, Saddam called on Iraqis to unite.

"O brave, pious Iraqis in the heroic resistance. O sons of the one nation, direct your enmity toward the invaders. Do not let them divide you ... Long live jihad (holy war) and the mujahideen against the invaders."

But he said Iraqis should not blame the populations of the United States and its allies: "I urge you not to hate the peoples of the countries that committed aggression against us, but instead to differentiate between the decision-makers and the peoples."

AMMAN, Jordan: Saddam Hussein's Baath Party threatened Wednesday to retaliate if the ousted Iraqi leader is executed, warning in an Internet posting it would target U.S. interests anywhere.

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/12/27/africa/ME_GEN_Iraq_Saddam_Verdict.php

These people have been brought up in the philosophy of retribution from the day of thier birth, nothing will change that ... a life for a tooth, a family for an eye.... and if you kill one, kill all... all of the family you can find.

I'm afraid the only thing that will change that 12th century view is an abrupt demographic flux, the chain has to be broken.

My only argument is that the trial wasn't held in an international court to provide a more transparent and internationally accepted trial. But the result would have been the same. They're determining who should pull the lever on the trap door. I say do it like a Dunk Tank at the fair. Hold a lottery and give each a turn with one baseball and see who hits the little round target first.

I must agree with Plainsman on this one......

This is by far the stupidest thing we've done over in Iraq, among a wealth of stupid things to choose from.

Why on earth give this guy a forum from which to spout?
No Saddam supporter would ever give any credence to such a verdict from such a court, and Saddam haters want him dead no matter what.

We should just reported that he committed suicide by hanging himself- even if it was reported that he accidently shot himself 7 times in the back---that would have been better for us and the living than the spectacle of a public hanging

This criminal should have been killed the moment he was caught .Now he will become a martyr and his hanging will result in many american soldiers being killed for no good reason other than revenge for Saddam.

Like Molosivich? He was on trial for years and years ans died in prison before he could be found guilty. What a waste of time that was.

They say that the guillotine is the most humane form of execution ever devised.

Too late, PW. The Iraqis are going to execute him. :)
His trial is over. He has been found guilty -- sentance handed-down. It's too late for a scheme like murdering him, then blaming it on those nasty Americans (and Bush).
LOL.
I can just picture Rosie O'donut crying already! :)

The sooner the better, he should not ever have been found alive

So Saddam is getting the Mother of All Suspended Sentences?

I like the Dunk Tank idea.....could really help offset the cost of this war....

Yep, 12 footer.

The Iraqis are going to hang him, and Americans are going to die because of it. Who would you blame if you were an Iraqi and a Saddam supporter? It was clearly GWB and the Americans that are directly responsible for Saddam's demise.

Just send in another 30 thousand troops, right? They weren't doing anything better with their lives anyway, and that extra few thousand troops will make all the difference!

Hopefully, even you, 12 footer, as delusional as you are, can't really believe that, can you?

Re: saddam to hang

UPDATE: I'm hearing on the radio that the hanging may be hours away. He has apparently been released to Iraqi Authority.

From Yahoo News...
"Najib Naimi, a former Qatar justice minister who served on Saddam's legal defense team, said he expected his client to be hanged at dawn on Saturday. "We think he might be executed by tomorrow as a gift for the Iraqis," he told BBC News 24."
