When I changed the lower unit gearcase oil,it was milky brown. What could be the problem?

Water intrusion due to leaky seals.

Can I remove the lower unit and take it somewhere. If so is it complicated?or is it a relativley easy repair?

There are many places water can get into the lower unit. Shift shaft seal, drive shaft seal, prop shaft. Yes - remove the lower unit and drop it off at your local shop. Have them change the water pump at the same time. They will (or should) do a pressure/vacuum test on it after new seals are installed.

Slow down a bit - - before you take it to a shop who will no doubt offer a complete reseal job - - drain the gear oil and refill using new gaskets on the fill & drain plugs. They are often the culpert.

u only have 5 seals

propshaft
drive shaft
shift shaft
drain o ring
vent o ring
