I like the picture of the boat that is stuck on the pole. Notice how the name of the boat is temporary insanity II. I wonder what happened to I... Lol

found some more...

one looks like someone just left their boat where it sank...

and the other one looks like some body was really afraid that their boat would be taken away by a misterous lake tide...lol...lol

This looks something like lake mead or the lower colorado. I found out the hard way that the water level in the lower colorado can drop a foot or two over night depending on the flow out of the grand canyon. I went to sleep with the boat firmly beached, and woke up to find it mostly dry. luckly a friend was also on the lake and came up to help drag me off. In all I would not recommend camping north of south point and if you cruise up there keep the speed low, right now there are a ton of sand bars and you can get stuck real fast.

I hope the water level comes back before I leave. I can remember in 2000 taking a boat all the way up to the grand canyon, at least as far as the park service would allow you and it was beautiful country, now though with the water level so low you can't even get near it. Unless you are in a little rubber boat or canoe.

That one with the boat wrapped around the pole was tested by the Mythbusters. I was not pleased by the result. They hit a glancing blow about a foot off the bow. The pole hit the Vee section, and just pushed the boat off to the side. Had they hit it directly in the middle, as that one seems to be, I think the outcome would be a bit better. They say "busted." I say "plausible."

Not only plausible, the "Temporary Insanity" accident happened in Tampa Bay just off of Pinellas Point. I drove by her several times while she was still lodged on the marker pole.

WOW!!!! I think if you look at most of these pictures, Stupidity comes to mind. The moment you are not careful while towing, or operating your boat, then that's when bad things happen. Great photos.

I would guess that alcohol was involved in most of them as well....

I agree with you. Also they didn't test it in water (of course this would be hard) but when in the water the force from the water would help to stop the boat from glancing off the side, thus allowing the pole to do exactly as the picture shows. :D

Found this on youtube. from what i can tell it was the bridge operator's fault. I would hate to be responsible for this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlHCbeY_V5s

This video happened in St Catharines, ON. Close to Thorold.... but... it happened no more than 5 minutes away from me. I remember it happening.

Apparently it is the bridge operators fault. It is a remote bridge that the operator views from a camera. It burned for an entire day. Some sort of grain onboard that wouldn't go out. Shut down the entire area for more than a day. There is a GM plant right by the bridge and they shut down temporarily.

Amazing to see a video of it.

Here is my boat lift and an example of a boat lift company that doesn't know the difference between a cable's breaking strength and Safe Working Load (20% of Breaking Strength). Take my advice when you buy a boat lift, insist on SWL cable strength.
