My 98 225 Ocean Pro won't shut off when the key is turned to the off position. It acts like it drops some of the cylinders but not all. It dosen't do this everytime and I can kill it by putting it in gear. I replaced the key switch and that did not help. I think it is a bad ground or connection but I do not know where to look. Pulling the kill switch does not help either. If you have any suggestions on what to look for I would appreciate it greatly.

Ground the black-yellow lead from the pulse pak. This will show if the pak is faulty. This is the kill wire for the engine.

look at the black/yellow wire on the engine, that is your stop circuit. sounds like it is corroded or not plugged in

Your shift interupter switch wiring circuit has a diode in it that could be blown OPEN and when you turn the key OFF, only 3 cylinders shut down.

The power pack has 2 "kill" wires coming off it. Check the connectors, pins, and sockets carefully because if there is an open circuit anywhere in the system, one bank of cylinders will not shut down. The "kill" wires will be black with a yellow stripe and possibly one of them will be black with an orange stripe. It is best to have a service manual to guide you along. As the old story goes" If you think hiring a professional is expensive, just see what it costs you after hiring an amateur."
