Sorry I should have wrote this in my first post but, the guy I bought the boat from said that the last time he took the boat out which was about 6 months ago it ran fine and the only problem he has was when he was taking back to the ramp he went to put it in reverse and had a hard time. I would like to know is there some kind of adjustment I look at to see if maybe that is what is causing an issue with revers. The hull is in great shape it does not leak and I got the boat and trailer for $300 which I think was a great deal for me first boat. Any help would be great.

Thank You
Wade

Re: Reverse Issue

May not be a problem. If he was going forward very fast the prop could have been turning too fast for easy insertion of the reverse cogs.

Idle can be too fast and cause the same problem

Linkage could be binding

Linkage (at the engine under the cowl) could need a touch.

Re: Reverse Issue

depending what kind of shift cable you have,at the motor, you might have to make a couple yurns on the adjustment on the cable to allow more throw into the reverse shift.Does the motor make a ratchrting kind of sound before it gets in,if so it needs the adj.and not doing it WILL eat your gears up.Check your gear oil for metel snavings, you should change it anyway to start a service start. On the engine side ,you can disconnect the shift cable, run eng.on flush kit, then ,being careful not to get hurt with eng.running, you can shift the eng into gear, and neut.and forward, testing that you have no problems, finish by putting eng in neu.shut off. Now with the control handle in neut.see how the cable aligns up with the linkage it hooks to,if its to far one way or the other, the cable will have a plastic barrel that screws either way,its the part that gets clamped down,if the problem is ratcheting, then you pnly need a slight adjustment. If the cable dont move in both positions when you engage the shifter, that could mean a bad cable
