The mercruiser manual says to use quicksilver perfect seal on the head gasket and threads of the bolts. They say for stainless head gaskets only. I dont have any perfect seal and I've never used sealant on head gaskets before. This is a 5.7 mercruiser , what would you use and place of perfect seal and is this necessity.

Re: Quicksilver perfect seal

How old is the manual?
I doubt if you would need to put anything on the newer head gaskets.....
Any aviation grade gasket sealant will do for the threads...
That I would do.......JK

Sounds more like an aftermarket manual, or a Very old Mercuriser OEM manual

You can get the "perfect seal" at any Merc dealer...we go thru a lot of it. Also known as 'gorilla snot'
