this has been going on for months now and getting worse,
I have been having a severe pain in my right arm
it is very weak, if I squeeze something it really hurts from my fingers to my shoulder, but the most pain is around my elbow,

I have been to the doc 3 times and he does not seem concerned, first time he said it was tendonitis, next time he said pinched nerve, third same and said give it time, but it does not seem to be getting better
viocodin, tylox and mussel relaxers don't faze it, it's still there
I have been exercising it with stress balls and weights
it's not getting better and does not feel like a mussel, it feels like it's in the bone.......
if my arm is straight out to pick something up I have use the other arm to help me lift it, even something as small as a soda can

I really don't know what to do from here the doc does not seem concerned and says give it time it will go away but it's like a tooth ache or like my arm is in a vise consistently, just enough that it's driving me insane.....and wakes me up all night long because it gets so stiff while I sleep
anyone had this type of problem?

Wow, don't know how old you are but that would drive me to a second or third opinion, (I'd keep getting opinions until I found a Doc who would care to find out what is wrong). Health is not something to mess with, and this would be very significant if it were happining to me or my loved one. Hope you find out what's wrong. JR

Have no Idea why your Doc would not be concerned. Get some more opinions. JR

Have you tried Ibruprophen of acetaminohen? (SP)
They are both OTC for pain & inflammation.....
Frankly, it does sound like tendonitis, but mine only hurts my elbows.....:'(
I would go see a sports guy....
It can't hurt to get some X-rays & consult with someone who specializes in sports injuries....
That's why it's common name is 'tennis elbow'....;).....JK

Ah, that 'splains it, xtraham. That's the age it all begins.:% Slow at first, then they start comin at ya faster. Just little things you know but unmistakably high mileage issues.

All that being said, I would definetly either go to or ask for a referral to an orhopedic dude. These kinds of things are not for the GP. They'd just as soon give you a pill as get to the root of the problem

Something similar happened to me a number of years back. Had shooting pains from my ankle up to my knee. The GP just gave me a perscription for an non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. I didn't buy it. I went to an Orthopedist on my own and he squared me right away.

Did you know Haut, that tennis elbow does not occur from any strain incurred directly by the elbow? It is what I would call a telegraphed injury. It comes from excessive strain on the ol' gripper, the hand. But you feel it in the elbow. And yeah it can be painfull.

I got it so bad one year, I begged for a cortizone shot. They wouldn't do it. Just gave me pain relievers and told me to quit using my hand for a while. Right, pain in the right elbow and right handed. It finally did abate but years latter it doesn't take much to cause it to flair back up.

Blue rubber coated Atlas gloves are indeed your best friend when it comes to ANY activity that requires a lot of tight gripping. The glove almost hangs on to your object by itself. That allows you to keep a more relaxed grip on the tool or whatever.

In August, 1999 I tripped and fell inside my house. Big bruises and a sprained wrist healed in a few days, but the symptoms you describe persisted. Got a similar diagnosis: tendon injury. Continued to use it like you have.

By January of 2001 my daughter, the PT, insisted I go to a bone specialist she knew.

Xray showed nothing but he didn't like that so he did an MRI. BINGO! I had broken part of the head of my radius off and it was floating loose.

A couple months in a cast fixed it up.

STOP using that arm. Go to a bone specialist.

Yeah, I know it's kinda a generic term......:):)

Re: anyone had a pain in your arm ?

thanks guy's
gonna give it a couple of weeks then go see a ortho..

JB when I squeeze something or shake someone's hand for example
it's a pain that radiates from the wrist concentrated to the elbow then to the shoulder similar to when you would have your arm twisted behind your back in a restraining hold.........
sound like the same ?

Re: anyone had a pain in your arm ?

I think you need to see a nueroligist. I have the same same symptoms and found that I had a degenerating disc (#7) that was pinching the nerve that goes to my left arm. It started just like what you are experiencing now and I just ignored it and tried to work my way thru it. Ended up with my left arm losing all its strength and going pretty much numb. I was able thru physical therapy to build enough muscle in my neck to relieve the pressure and after about 9 months the nerve grew back enough to regain the use of my left arm. But it is and always will be somewhat weak and the pain is ever present but not that severe. Get yourself to a good doctor and get an MRI.

Except for the part that your elbow hurts, that sounds like me, before I had my rotator cuff operation.

Have your doc refer you to an Orthopedic specialist .

Re: anyone had a pain in your arm ?

i think you should adk for some strong pain killers like oxycottin or mophene! i would. All kidding aside though i hade pains in my right knee for a long time. Im 28 years old. At my work i have to climb ladders and i had been to my family doctor and he told me "your young, you'll get over it". I let it go for a couple of weeks. It got so bad that i was finding myself lifting my leg up with my hands and arms to the next rung on a ladder. I started to get scared so i went and saw him again. He gave me percocet 10 mg's like 60 of em and set me up with an ex-ray. ex-ray showed nothing. so i started to get scared i saw a specialist without a refurel i have PPO insurance. He set me up with an MRI found the problem. Cant remember the name but was a day surgery. The family doctor pissed me off so much with the whole "your young you'll get over it" that i switched to a new one. If your not sure if what Dr is telling you is right you should see another one. Its your body you know whats going on better than anyone. I called my insurance Co and they are not paying my old Dr cause of the "your young you'll get over it". Anyone could have told me that.

Re: anyone had a pain in your arm ?

Sounds like this could be the carpel tunnel thing where the nerves are compressed in the carpel tunnel of the wrist. These nerves go from the fingers to your shoulder. Are your fingers going numb and you have a burning sensation of the hand and fingers ?? Is it really bad at night ??
I have had this for years and my daughter had surgery for it several years ago.
One thing you could try is to get a brace that straps around you wrist and keeps your wrist from bending and clamping down on these nerves. Wal-Mart sells these for around $10. It slips over your hand and It has a metal spoon that goes in your palm and velcro straps that go around your hand.
Hope this works....
