Hi ricardo and welcome to iboats!

You'll have to remove the shift rod lever pin to release the shift rod.

If you look from the starboard side of the engine, behind the bottom carb you will see the shift lever and the shift rod coming up to engage it. You will also see a 3/8 bolt head back there. This is the shift rod lever pin. You can get to it using a 1/4" drive and long extenstion with a universal joint. Unscrew the pin and remove it. The lower unit will then drop off. It helps if you shift the lower unit into reverse....this gets the lever down for easier access. And I would also reattach the lower unit with at least one bolt. Will keep it from hitting the floor once the shift rod is lose......d:)

And....don't turn the shift rod. It's set at a specific height. Turning it will throw the shift outta whack.

Sounds easy doesn't it. NOT. On the big V6's that don't have a split cowling pan I usually take the bottom carb off. It makes re-assembly a whole lot easier.
Actually I believe the bolt pin is on the port side.

another hint for next time, using a 1/4 drive, with a 3/8 universal socket and putting some tape around the universal part to restrict the flexing(becomes clear when you do it)put engine in reverse. An extension bar of about 12 inches You can get the bolt under the carb out pretty easy.Removing the shift cable from the linkage helps.a very long needle nose or a grabber tool to pull it out and replace it helpsWhen putting it back together,a long needle nose ,or needle vice grips will help line up the shifter rod by manipulating under the cowling pan,or down below where the shift rod exits the midsection.
