Well, at least you have a boat there.8) Hey E.F, what kind of trees are the one in the pic. with the eerie long drooping leaf? I know it's very common down in your part and was always wondering what the heck is it?

Is that river water or sea water? Is that a permanent situation or transient? Much further and you might want to fit your domicile to a barge.

Did the Bible predict a second coming of Noah? :%

Gonefishie, The long drooping leaf that that you see isnt a leaf....its Spanish Moss a parasite that invades the trees here.

Its river water from the MIssissipi and Yazoo rivers. The water will have to rise another 10 to 12 feet to get in to the houses and once the water crests that ridge where the houses are sitting it really spreads out and wont rise fast at all. There are also flood control structures on Steele Bayou and the Sunflower river that affects the rise and fall of the water there. Both those tributaries flow in to the Yazoo river. The gates on them are open now, BUT, on the river side the water is at the same level as the water on the side where the houses are.

That area is located inside the river levee system in The Mississippi River Delta. I'll post a link below to the Corps of Engineers if yall are interested in watching it. We are in the Yazoo Backwater Area link to the right of the window. When that opens up we are on the Steele Bayou Structure LS.

What I do know is, when the level of Steele Bayou on the LS side of the structure is at 82.9 feet you cant get a vehicle in or out of our camp....you start going in and out by boat.

Wait until you get the water that I am sending you from the Ohio. It reached over flood stage everywhere (almost) except Evansville In.

FIreman, the Mississippi is on the rise and the Corps hasn't predicted a crest for it yet since it hasn't reached flood stage.

If it would stay like that it'd be nice but it always drops back inside the banks. Going to the camp by boat is by far the best way to go. Its a 14 mile ride by boat. Its generally a good ride unless the wind is blowing straight up the canal.

We can't drive trucks in during hunting season because the roads get so bad and the land owner (Anderson-Tully Co.) wont fix the roads unless they are logging the property. We're restricted to ATV's from a parking lot that ATCO built for us and its a 9 mile ride by ATV.

Re: Water On The Rise

Sounds like our ohio river bottoms. Too much mud/clay. you would literally bury anything that you tried to drive in. Duck/goose up here has been pretty much zilch the last couple of years. Not much migration just local nusance geese that know where everyone is so you don't get a shot. 14 miles by boat has to be better than 9 miles on a 4 wheeler. Hope it stay in down there it is dropping up here as of Wednesday with no measurable precipitation forecasted for the next 10 days. But that could change tomorrow because you know all about weathermen.
