td,

I am on record as saying I hope this strategy works. I truly hope this gets the job done. I have become a bit more skeptical / scared after learning more of his own party is jumping ship on him.

Come-on if you’re counting how many people got up and clapped, go to Youtube and look at some old Clinton SOTU speeches.

From Tree's article...

Asked by Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, who also backs the plan, if a resolution would also “give the enemy some encouragement” by suggesting that the American people are divided, General Petraeus replied, “That’s correct, sir.”

There you have it. The proposed Democratic resolutions give the enemy "encouragement"... now read below the spin by the Democrats.

That answer sparked admonishments by critics of Mr. Bush’s strategy, who insisted that the point of the Senate resolutions is to put pressure on the government of Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki of Iraq to follow through on its political program and take more responsibility for its own security.

“We know this policy is going forward,” said Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Democrat of New York. “We know the troops are moving. We know that we’re not likely to stop this escalation. But we are going to do everything we can to send a message to our government and the Iraqi government that they had better change, because the enemy we are confronting is adaptable.”

A despicable lot!

CJY, Our next president will have to ultimatly have to fix this mess.

The fundamental flaw in the president's plan is that it absolutely requires Maliki's co-operation for any chance of success, and Maliki has obligations to Sadr for the very power he has.

I personally think that at some point, there is going to be a blood bath between the Sunni factions and the Shia factions--and there is no point getting 100 Americans killed a month postponing the inevitable.

And we better figure out a plan to deal with Iran and Saudi Arabia when that happens, and the threat of a regional war that is going to keep us busy keeping the lid on things over there.

It's one thing to hope for the best, but we better face reality and plan for the worst.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraqi authorities say they have been quietly taking a bolder stance against Muqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi Army militia, and the United States says it has uncovered evidence that Iran is involved in attacks inside Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Wednesday that security forces in recent days cracked down on the Mehdi Army, part of a politically powerful Shiite movement thought to be in the middle of the Sunni-Shiite sectarian violence in Iraq.

He said 400 arrests were made.

No need to point out success. The dye is cast. Run away. Pick up the chips later. This IS the democrats plan. In the mean time they play both sides of the fence for political gain. Again, just like Vietnam, disgusting. This is what passes for supporting our troops.

I just love when out of the same mouths come "it is an unwinnable conflict," while out of the other side of their mouths they want us to change the climate of the globe by riding bicycles. This has to be a perfect example of clueless.

You need to keep in mind that the number one priority of politicians is to keep their job. Number two is to get a better job.

Everything they do is affected by those priorities.

Should the press fail completely to keep the public thinking failure and suddenly have the public see what our President is doing as the right thing to do, well, you would see Congress hailing the Chief as a hero.

What you smokin' those fish with, JB? You hanging out in the smokehouse too long or what? ;)

Bush's failures are the fault of the Press? Man, how delusional can you get? Putting everything else aside, concentrating on Iraq alone. What exactly has Bush done right?

Killed Sodamn Insane and his sons.
Killed Al Zaquari (sp?) and who know how many other terrorists.
Shut down the terrorist training camps.
Stopped a source of cash to the terrorists.
Provided an opportunity for democracy in the heart of the Middle East. (Whether they take it or not is another matter.)
And if all else fails, we've created a black hole in which the terrorists of the region are being sucked into and killed in large quantity. Rough on the Iraqis but, better there than here.

Frankly, I think it's far less that a 50/50 shot that we will be successful. I don't think that the Middle Eastern/Islamic culture can coexist with the modern world.
All we can do is give the region the oppertunity to join the 21st century. If they won't or can't do it, then we will at least be able to say in good consiounce that "We tried." as we reduce the region to a radioactive cinder.

Great list bekosh and let me add:

- New Iraqi constitution
- 3 free elections
- Privatised Iraqi oil biz (good for citizens despite spin that some will put on it)
- Reminded UN if resolutions are meaningless, we'll give them meaning
- New government in place
- Iraq Army and police training

Time alone will tell if any of this will end-up providing any gainful benefit whatsoever. So far, the gains have been overshadowed by the losses 10 to 1. Can we still succeed? I don't know. For the sake of the sacrifices of the troops, I hope we can. But as for Bush...

All he is saaaaay-ing
is give War a chaaaaaance.......

Ayuh,..............

I Still like the Idea of fighting the Battle in this War on Terrorism in the streets of Bagdad,.....
Rather than New York.........

I said this Way back when We were planning the Iraqi Invasion,..........

It's the Perfect Battlefield for this War,.....
It's in a nice central location for the Enemy,... They can easily comute to,+ from work,......
And We're getting Way More of Them, than they're getting of Us...................

Unlike New York,........
They got 3000 of Us,+ only lost 20 combatants..............

And,......... With Relaxed Battlefield Rules,...........
Let the Carnage Begin.....................

Ayuh,.........

Bagdad or New York,..??..??..... I'd say GW is 1 Smart Cookie..........

Hey lets toss in Lybia joining the world of civilized people and not terrorists.

Any chance that the UN stealing money for personal benefit of the chosen few would have come to light without our invasion? Oil for food. I know that only matters if you are in favor of a UN that isn't corrupt.

How about the fact little GIRLS are now recieving an education and not relagated to slave status. I thought that was a liberal cause?

I have a buddy who just came back from the "Hot Zone"....
He has spent over 800 days there on several tours....
After some more "advanced training" he will redeploy....
Long story short, his biggest b!tch was the rules of engagement.....
I'm sure he is ecstatic about that....
It is a step in the right direction, for sure......;)

Come on Pointer. It's only important for women if they are the first female Speaker of the House or first female President . . . :| Now that would be progress. Women showing their face in public is no biggee.
