Re: 1989 Bass Buggy DL

I have an 88 DL. I think mine is a 19 gal. It doesn't leak, but My gage is unreliable. Put in 5 gal and it says empty, put in another 5 and it says full. Put in another 5 and it sill says full and I think I could put in another 5 gal. Also I don't know which is the res. tube and which is the run. I took the sender unit out and can't see in there even with a mirror and flashlight...............Jerry

I think mine is 19 gal also, but I can't tell which tube is the res and which is the run. Short of running out of gas, I don't know which one to mark as reserve. There seems to be a gage on the sending unit but it is so tiny it is hard to read and down inside an area where my eyes aren't good enough. I think I am going to get a spare tank (would like to have a back up anyway) and take it with me on the river and just run it out of gas. Then I can mark the valve "run" and "res." Where I live in Iowa the Des Moines river is beautiful now and high, and I would like to get on it before it goes down. I have the motor down now to put a seal in and have my arms screwed up with rotator cuff surgery so I don't know if it is going to happen. Have a good forth of July................................Jerry

On mine the valve is located aft of the tank....valve pointed outboard is main tank.....valve pointed up is off....valve pointed inboard is reserve.......we always carry five gal spare, also installed a fill neck on tank that can be used from inside the boat.....just in case we run out in the middle of the pond...

sounds like a good idea with the filler . How did you do it? I was in Fresno back in the 80's. On our way to seqoia park. I live in Iowa and about 1/4 mile from the Des Moines river. Good population of small mouth bass and walleyes. Now I'm bunged up with surgery and can't cast a rod, and it's about to drive me nuts. When my shoulder heals (five months) I get to do the other one. I'll be more carefull with my body after this. Have a good one...........Jerry

Hey Jerry.......you can find any number of "fill necks"....that will work, I got one from McMaster carr for $13 get one that sticks up a little, otherwise you may get leakage from sloshing........tank is plastic, drill with a hole saw....shavings are plastic...they float, i dont think I will have any problem with them getting to engine....
I was in Iowa in the 70's....step dad had family in Council Bluffs....Fresno has plenty of fishing....3 bass lakes within 60 min of me...boat is 20 min away
