I need to disassemble a Merc 7.5 to change impellar. Everybody talks about it, but how is it done? Anybody have a picture?

Thoose are easy to get off. There will be a 1/2 locknut up under the antiventilation plate above the prop. It's in a cavity right next to a round water intake screen. Remove that. In front, you'll see a thin 9/16 locknut. Loosen that in stages as the gearcase disengages until it slides out of the slot. Then remove the gearcase.

Getting it back on is a lot harder. It's challenging to get everything lined-up, but it goes back together in the opposite order. Make sure the water pipe slides nicely into the guide tube.

Merc says to put the shift lever in Forward before dropping it and when reassembling. I personally find it easier to do in Neutral, but I'm weird. :p

You have 2 nuts to remove, 1 under the cavitation plate a 13 and 1 at the front above the cavitation plate a 14, then the unit should come down and 2 nuts #11 hold the top of the water pump on, when reinsalling the unit be sure it and the upper shift linkage are in the same gear

Like you said disassembling is not difficult. The impellar blades had come off. Reassembling it not as easy. In the pump locking the impellar there is a small piece of steel. It is loose and moving around. Should it be welded to the driveshaft?

No use a little grease and some care to reinstall, make sure you have cleaned as many pieces of the old imp out as you can find or it could plug the system up

After you get the impeller back together and are ready to put the lower unit back on, tip your motor upside down so you are looking down the exaust housing..look in the hole where the shift shaft goes and wiggle the shifter handle until the upper shift shaft centers in the hole..then carefully lower your lower unit down onto the exaust housing. It may take several tries but is a whole lot easier than trying to do it with the motor right side up. I don't remember who gave this tip but I'd like to give them a big hug since I've used that tip several times with my 9.8.
