using washdown for cooling source

first i would like to thank all the guys that make this site so great and keep up the good work. my question is a shot in the dark idea. can a yamaha 150 4stoke be cooled in an emerengcy by using a raw water wash down pump on board.meaning attaching a hose to the washdown tap on the side,and running the engine to reach shore?

Well, howdy, fishlady!

Welcome to iboats.

Sounds risky to me, fishlady. The flush attachment would circulate water through the block but doesn't go into the waterpump. That's why we recommend never to run the engine when flushing.

But, of course, seems that the reason for trying what you suggest would be an already failed water pump.

if the water pump is the failure and its run for short periods at idle only it may work.
I would rather rely on proper maint and my tow boat US card .
at anything above an idle the engine flusher wont cool it.
in fact the latest seminar last dec yamaha says,again, not to use the engine mounted flusher for running tests.
