Well, I have my 1985 19' BR down to the stringers and have been considering changing the floor plan a bit when I put it back together. it's an I/O with standard back-to-back fold down seats and jump seats on either side of the engine doghouse. A small flat area at the stern with no padding. Basically, the pre-sports boat look with no sun pad. The bow seats are great the way they are. I re-foamed them last year.

I don't want to lose tons of space but could give up one of the jump seats, maybe for storage and/or something with partial sunpad on that section? I'd like to have the helm seat be a captains chair (already bought it on ebay). I MAY re-use parts of the B-2-B seats to make a bench behind the captains chair, not sure. Or I could use it t create a "lounge" chair for one of the jump seats.

Anyone ever change the layout of a boat this size and like it? Any creative ideas for me to consider? It seems like I could find a good use for at least part of the B-2-B I am replacing with the cpatains chait on the driver side.

General use family boat, some skiing, tubing, cruising, hanging out. A sunpad isn't critical, likely would be used more for my boys to jump into lake than sunbathing. I'll probably put a flush-mounted removable small table in the back somewhere for getting the eats organized on.

Thanks.

you can use the deck mount and pedistal for at bass seat, and put the table in the bow. the kids sit around like a picnic, then stow it between the b2b seat and the gunnel. belive you would need the screw in pediestal, for lack of clearance below the floor.

Sounds like an interesting project. The picnic table idea is a good one.

How about some underfloor storage too? Depending on how your stringers are laid out you might get a fair-sized ski/paddle/sternlight/fender/line locker down there. Make sure it's sealed against water and drains properly into the rear of the bilge and that water can still get under it from front to back. And for heaven's sake, no carpet down there! Make a locker door out of King Starboard or similar (making sure the door isn't so wide it bows under your weight) and vent it to prevent mildew.

hmmm....some good ideas. I was just looking at some smallish removable tables. I may put one behind the captains chaIr because there will be lots of empty space from removing the B-2-B on that side. We ALWAYS need a spot to prep sandwiches and the like.

I also may well lok at adding under-floor storage I have to weigh this against floatation in those areas though. The "no carpet" in storage areas....couldn't agree more. The nasty, wet, moldy, rot-causing carpet I pulled out of the ski locker are when I pulled the floor up was disgusting!

Any other ideas?

if you had a ski locker that's the best storage you can have. reuse the hatch. i personally say there is no really good place for carpet, in a boat or at home. dirty nasty stuff.

TMH, My 1988 19' SeaRay Sorrento I/O Bowrider had a 4.5' X 1' ski well in the floor between the B-2-B seats. It was very handy. Also the top of the dog house was padded and the jump seats could be placed high to match the top of the doghouse. This created a sunpad. You can see the picture of the boat on the SeaRay Web site. Just look up the specs on the boat.

My new 21 Seaswirl Bowrider (actually it is called a dual console) Has a swivel bucket for the driver, B-2-B for the passenger and a pad on top of a livewell for the passenger to sit behind the driver. Also has jumpseats. All the seats except the bucket and b-2-b seats come out for fishing trips. Easy to hose up the fish blood!

I am not sure how you could put an "L" shaped seat in your cockpit, with that doghouse. I think it would take up too much room. You could make a bench seat on the top of the doghouse, with a backrest. It would be a bit high, and make boarding from the rear harder, but it would work. it would have good storage on the sides of the doghouse, as well.

Chris, the jump seats that can be place up at thedoghouse level for a sunpad is a cool idea. I saw that once on a Montery? but forgot about it. Thanks.

The L shape would be nice but just not practical with the doghouse. I think I'll set it up so the B-2-B, when folded down as a bench, creates a lounge seat/long bench with the jump seat on that side.

I could also put one of those cooler/seats behind the swivel captains chair. More likely I'll put a removable table in that spot.

Just a word of caution.

Anywhere that you are considering putting a pedestal seat (captains chair) make sure the floor is heavily reinforced in that area. Pedestals put a lot of stress on their attachment point. Don't ask me how I know this.:^8)

Since you already have the floor out, it's an easy do, at this point.

DWJ, thanks a ton for that reminder! I could just see me thinking of this AFTER finishing the floor!!!!

I'll reinforce that area - as you said, easy if done before the final floor laydown!!! NOT so easy after the seat has smashed a non-reinforced floor!

Plus, as I get older I am, unfortunately, putting even MORE stress on seats than I used to!

True on the pedestal mount, my FW had a 1/2 in floor, with 3/4 in ply reinforcements for the seat bases underneath, the stringers were notched for the 3/4 in pieces and the floor went on top of them. Pulled all this out for the rebuild and duplicated what was there. I like the dual pedestal seats and the sun pad with full width rear seat in a bowrider. Gives tons of storage space in the engine compartment. Smaller boats do better with the jump seats on either side of the motor doghouse. On mine the previous owner had taken out the bottom of the rear seat and used 2 coolers with snap on cushions for the rear seat. This worked OK but the coolers were too high and cushions uncomfortable. I found that seating for a pontoon boat would fit the space perferctly, so I got 2 units that were 36 in wide each (had to notch the shelf in the gunnels slightly) and that gave me nice seats, with storage in the plastic bases, that matched the front pedestal seats I got a couple of years before.
