I was at my local Wally store yesterday and although we in the tundra have 14-inches of ice on our lakes, I strolled through the fishing/boating aisle and by golly if they didn't have Pennzoil semi-synthetic two-stroke oil marked down from $11.46 to $9.00, then marked down again to $7.00. I loaded up. Just curious if anyone else noticed this or whether it was just a "this store" deal.

Clearanced out. To make room for fresh supplies, or discontinued.

Re: Oil Bargain

A guy in another forum I visit said he read in Bassin' magazine, that Wallyworld will stop carrying boating/fishing gear soon.

Always on sale/clearence this time of the year...I loaded up al kinds of stuff a few days ago. And maybe a WM in the middle of Kansas with no lakes might stop boating fishing stuff, but it would be INSANE here in the PNW, surrounded by fish, shootable game, and water

Cabela's is a stones throw up the road in one direction from my local Wally store, and an equal distance in the other direction is a Fleet Farm store that has a great fishing/boating/outdoor section so maybe they are going to get out of that business.

Funny you should post that. My local WM (CT) did the same thing and I bought every one they had in stock as my usage is 20 gallons a year.
I don't understand why they mark it down now when they have it on dispaly again in April when fishing season starts.
Their loss my savings!

Re: Oil Bargain

I haven't been able to understand the logic of WM but I do geet peeved when I buy a product from them and return for replacements just to find that they no longer have it....I think it's all market driven; both supply and consumer sides.

While we're on the subject, I have that oil and also Merc premium plus. Reading the verbiage on both containers suggests to me that prem plus is supplied by Pennzoil to merc and is syn blend but Merc says nothing about that.

Found the same thing with Valvoline ATF+4 auto tranny fluid, as compared to Mopar ATF+4. Valvoline readily states that it is a full syn oil. Mopar says nothing. Valvoline is the only mfgr around here to supply the stuff so I guess they must be the suppliers to Mopar too.

Thanks for the tip and I'll look next time I'm in the store.

I don't believe Wal-mart will stop carrying fishing/boating supplies altogether. I do believe they will look at regions and sales at local stores. At my local 'Mart, they have increased the boating/fishing section dramatically. They sell the same downriggers, lures, rods, reels, everything that the one local outfitter does. In fact, we went for several years with no local outfitter and we have the largest lake in the state. Wal-mart jumped on this and started selling the good stuff. Can't say I have seen Shimano Curado reels at any other wal-mart I have been to.

In fact, our 'Mart is better stocked, with better prices than our local outfitter, with only minor exceptions. Hard to beat that...

The wal mart here routinely puts full synthetic mixed in with the semi-syn. I've bought many gallons of full syn. for $11.00 each. They still do it and I still buy it.8)

I happened to be in WallyWorld a little while ago and picked the last of thier supply, 2 - 2 1/2 gal and a single gal for $45. I have never understood why they sell the 2 1/2 gal jugs for more ($7.60 @ gal) compared to $7, for singles, but still a good price.
Gas was down to $2.36 at Costco today.

WM are excellent marketers. I use the Pennzoil Semi/Syn. also. Mennards was selling it for $9.62 gal. This was over a $1.00 less than WM. I knew something was up. I bought 8 gal. Now they have both raised. WM I believe is over $11.00/gal. Mennards raised also, but is still less than WM.

I bought the last three gallons of their supply at my local Wally -- still $7.00/gal. Funny that their quart bottles were $3.46 and not on sale. I used to run Cabela's semi-synthetic at $9.00/gal but they are up there with everyone else now.
